I disconnected my EGR and AIR in mid March and then last night I removed the pump for the EGR because I needed a new belt. NO codes have ever been thrown and NO problems with the motor detenating. Just thought I would throw that out there :D

cool...thats because the emission stuff on our cars aren't tied into the computer as much as the newer ones...they are just output devices, and don't have much input on the computer...i've also heard about the EGR making cars run like sh*t tho when deleted...

Drive on the freeway for a bit at constant speed and you still don't get a code?
It won't make your car run like ****. Mine was like that for at least 8 months until I ditched it in the prom.

Unfortunately, the EGR system on TPI cars actually has a little temperature sensor built into it to positively determine if the EGR system is working when it's called for by the ECM. I have observed what iansane has pointed out- extended highway driving at constant throttle and up pops a code. Older carbureted engines it's a toss-up: most never know the EGR is defeated. But the TPIs are smarter than that. The TBI engines somehow usually figure it out, too, even though they don't have a temp sensor in the EGR system.
But hey, if it's working for you then stick with it.

actually i put 150 highway miles on it sunday, that was before i took the pump off, however there were no hoses connected to it so it didnt do anything anyway. It also made the motor compartment a LOT quieter. That thing makes a terrible noise just spinning it by hand! Think about what it was doin at 3K RPM.
Damon, you tune q-jets? What would you charge for that? Ive got one on a 78 TA that needs a little work. Can you rebuild too?

yeah, i havent gotten a prom burnt for it yet since it hasnt thrown a code
EDIT: i lied everyone, it was the smog pump that i removed the other day, not the EGR, HOWEVER, EGR is also non functional. It was the smog pump that made all that nasty noise under the hood.

From what I remember, Damon does an AMAZING job w/ Q-Jets. If it is him I am thinking of, he actually gained some hp, awesome throttle response from his Q-Jet :D
