Today I was backing out of my garage to work on my car, all was well, then I to take my key out and it was stuck. Then I thought the stearing was locked, took it out for a spin and it was fine, stoped the car but it was still stuck. Tried playing with it but it won't come out. It will turn off and on but won't turn to the LOCK position and won't come out.

Any help will do just fine, and if you have any questions just ask.

this happened to my buddys 3rd gen once, i remember. from what i remember, it was one of those things where we tried for like an hour to get it out, and nothing, then stopped, then got pissed and went back at it and it came out eventually on its own, then he got the ignition cyl. changed

he said the key does not turn to lock,
the key is meant to be held to the steering column as long as the key is not in the lock position,

i believe once u get the key to the lock position it will come right out

what may cause the key no to go to lock may be as simple as the safety neutral switch or the brakelight switch or the ignition switch

i'm sorry i can't tell u exactly what because i'm not exactly sure

Make sure that the button on your shifter knob is released all the way. My bonneville does this to me sometimes. With the button stuck (from a Mountain Dew Spillage) it would not turn all the way back sometimes.

well, I have a B&M shifter, so It's auto but the lever is not stuck.
I tried again today and it still won't budge... don't want to put to much muscle into it or it might break, then I'm ****ed. :(

You said that you thought that the steering was locked so I assume that you maybe have tried turning the wheel some while turning or pulling the key?
As someone mentioned,I also think that you'll need a new lock cylinder. :(

When this happened to mine I would put it into Neutral and Park a bunch of times and eventually it would free up the key.

I fixed it today, took a screwdriver and poped it out. It seems to work fine now, but I'm going to go buy a new cylinder for it.

Thanks for all your replies!
