Speedometer Bounce problems

Ok. here is the situation. When i got the 84 z28 with the t-5 in it the speedometer did not work properly. it would bounce around a bit and you never knew exactly how fast you were going. So I bought a digital dash setup through nordskog (sp?). Anyhow I installed that and got the Speedometer VSS Convertion for it, and it still bounced. Next i replaced the driven gear (as the drive gear was fine) Still bounces.. Does ANYONE at all know what could be causeing the thing to not report the accurate speed? There is no mechanical speedo cable connected anymore ( two wires in a loom now). Any ideas on posibilities would be very helpful. thanx.

did you ever replace the drive gear (on the output shaft)? sounds like it is worn and the driven gear is skipping

no. i didn't. i had the tail houseing off and compared it with a brand new one and they looked identical. Hardly any wear on the drive gear at all. But i suppose it would not hurt to tear it all down and put the new one on just to make sure now. not like i don't have another car to drive lol.

It could also be a bind in the speedo cable...

He said there was no speedo cable. ;)

You may be looking at the wrong PART of the gear. Maybe not the teeth but how about the end where it goes into the tranny, could be worn. Speaking of which, I need to get a new set of those gears. Anyone wanna post a link to where you can get them from??

never thought about the side mounting surfaces to it.. go idea. The gears by what i have been told can only be gotten through restoration places or dealers.

I know that Year One has them if you know what you need. They are not to pricey from the dealer though. it cost me 11$ for the drive and driven gear for the stock 3:73 gears in the car with the t-5 setup.

Brad, www.700R4.com, they have a speedo calculator as well, if you have changed rear gears, I got mine from here
