Its about time, that car was old years ago. Be intresting to see the replacement. centric 07-15-2005, 12:13 PM Only about 7 years late on an update. Good show, Acura! OutsiderIROC-Z 07-15-2005, 12:50 PM At least they've announced it will have a replacement.... falchulk 07-15-2005, 01:03 PM They have been saying this for at least 2 years. Z28Wilson 07-15-2005, 01:18 PM Uhh, if the new car is going to resemble that silver concept they showed in 2003, why don't they just badge it as the new NSX? C'mon, besides a more voluptuous rear that car is a carbon copy of the NSX we've been seeing for the last 15 years. Plus, you get to keep the ricer cred the NSX name carries. RussStang 07-15-2005, 02:02 PM The silver car is a hybrid concept labeled the HSC, although I would hope they would just call it the NSX if it made it into production, as to not lend themselves to a confusing situation. I hope they make the concept into a production car, as I would like to see a company make a hybrid car that actually has performance intentions, and see how it does. HAZ-Matt 07-15-2005, 03:02 PM For the next supercar, Honda is teaming up with Apple to bring out the OSX. ;) graham 07-15-2005, 03:51 PM Other boards have the same thread filled wil RIP and what not. Not us BABY! Hell with it! lol That would've really been a great car if Honda had the nuts to make a real powerplant. I guess it was neat considering what it was, but so is a midget with a 40" vertical. But do you think a 3'10" person could play in the NBA? jrp4uc 07-15-2005, 03:56 PM Well, a replacement is in development. I guess it won't be called "NSX." http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=102786 number77 07-15-2005, 05:39 PM I hope their next sports car...excuse me...supercar, has more displacement than my corolla. Gold_Rush 07-15-2005, 07:56 PM I hope their next sports car...excuse me...supercar, has more displacement than my corolla. Your corolla has 3.2L? :p I'm hoping they'll drop a real engine under the hood too. Look at Lexus/Toyota and their upcoming supercar. 500hp 5.0L v10. Now that is the real deal. But Honda has yet to develop a production v8 let alone anything as wild as a v10 and have this mentality that a v6 in every application is more than appropiate. Honda/acura needs to see the real picture. Their flagship RL sedan, truck, SUV's, and high-end sports cars need something bigger than a 3.X v6. I think it is time that they stepped upto atleast a v8. mr00jimbo 07-15-2005, 08:18 PM Good Riddance! That thing was rotting like the hooker in the trunk of an Eldorado. :o Bud M 07-15-2005, 08:26 PM I always thought it was a bad decision that Acura priced the NSX so unrealistically. They could have been a viable alternative to the Vette if their pricing had been more in line with their performance. gtjeff 07-15-2005, 11:01 PM An article in USA Today said that only 9000 NSX's have been sold in the US since the 1991 model year, that would be about 750 cars per year. The car was simply too expensive, not many changes and 290 hp isnt earth shattering performance today in a $90,000 car. unvc92camarors 07-15-2005, 11:40 PM An article in USA Today said that only 9000 NSX's have been sold in the US since the 1991 model year, that would be about 750 cars per year. The car was simply too expensive, not many changes and 290 hp isnt earth shattering performance today in a $90,000 car. It wasn't earth shattering performance back when it came out. I mean, you had ZR1s while priced high, that had 400hp. It was a good car but like many others noted, simply too expensive for what it was. number77 07-16-2005, 12:07 AM Your corolla has 3.2L? :p I'm hoping they'll drop a real engine under the hood too. Look at Lexus/Toyota and their upcoming supercar. 500hp 5.0L v10. Now that is the real deal. It's a 1.8L but you get the idea. :D Now if their original car could go to 9k or 10k RPMs I think it would have sold better I want to show you something. (links may have popups) http://www.supercars.net/cars/3148.html http://www.supercars.net/garages/MMO/17v2.html Look at the weight of the two cars. If you do the math you can see the NSX (carbon fiber all the way around) weighs 2561 lbs...The Porsche weighs 3395lbs...over a thousand pounds more... Both v6 engines, the Porsche has about 25 more cubes and has a turbo. Giving it 415/415 hp/tq while the NSX has 276/224 hp/tq... top speed on the Porsche is 189, for the NSX its 174 Oh yea, the Porsche costs 111k....The NSX costs 470k...... thats not a typo... WERM 07-16-2005, 12:42 PM I always liked how they made a big deal about how lightweight the car was when it didn't weigh any less than your standard 40,000 dollar corvette. redzed 07-16-2005, 02:17 PM The Acura NSX seemed like a great idea back in the late 1980s. For $55,000, Honda was offering an affordable and reliable mid-engined supercar. Compared to the Ferrari 328, this car was a revelation. During the NSX's first model year, there was $15,000-25,000 dealer price gouging. The NSX sure was in demand. Then the NSX went dead cold. Since the mid-90s, this car has been virtually invisible and universally unwanted. It didn't help that the price surged to $70,000 and then to $90,000. The real problem was that the NSX was a brilliant late 1980s design that reached its "sell by date" in about '92 or '93. Bud M 07-16-2005, 08:28 PM "There goes the challenger being chased by the big blue meanies on wheels. The vicious traffic squad cars are after our lone driver, the last American hero, the electric sintar, the demi-god, the super driver of the golden west!" - Super Soul from Vanishing Point, 1971 What the hell is a sintar? R377 07-16-2005, 09:55 PM What the hell is a sintar? "Sitar", perhaps? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sitar AronZ28 07-17-2005, 01:55 AM The NSX was two turbos and two intercoolers away from perfection. Imagine if that car had a twin turbo V6 back in 1995 with 400hp. I bet Honda would have sold a few more than 7000, although it still wouldn't be near what the Vette sells. CrabhartZ28 07-17-2005, 01:57 AM it would still be way too overpriced. AronZ28 07-17-2005, 02:16 AM it would still be way too overpriced. True, but a 400hp ZR-1 or Viper were overpriced in 1995. morb|d 07-18-2005, 12:54 AM you mean up until now they were actually making NEW ones? no...... number77 07-20-2005, 06:23 PM The goal for the generation is a v10 http://world.honda.com/news/2005/c050720_a.html RussStang 07-20-2005, 07:10 PM Wow, I am almost shocked to read that. I wonder how much it will displace. Obviously it will have formula 1 influences. indieaz 07-21-2005, 12:24 AM For the next supercar, Honda is teaming up with Apple to bring out the OSX. ;) That one got a good chuckle outta me. indieaz 07-21-2005, 12:27 AM If you do the math you can see the NSX (carbon fiber all the way around) weighs 2561 lbs...The Porsche weighs 3395lbs...over a thousand pounds more... Your math is a bit off there, 3395-2561 = 834. Well under 1,000 pounds difference. It's still a substantial difference though. | ||
