Oh, you mean like Cadillac had since 2000 or so, and recently abandoned?

Good show, BMW! Maybe next time you'll figure out how to put it in a HUD like Caddy did.

Good show, GM, for showing everyone what to do--then killing it.

Greeeaaaat.....

One more thing for zee Germans to design to last just past the warranty, if that long....

And we give GM crap for always being 3 years late to the prom...

...and I like bimmers

Caddy dropped night vision because it was a high-cost option that was not popular. I can't imagine BMW offering a similar system at a lower price point, but we'll see how they do I guess.

A shame too, because both were so innovative, and potentially useful

The good new is for Bimmer that they're cars are already a high cost option so it should fit right in.

Exactly! Aren't CD players still optional with them?

European automakers can play the high-cost option game and still come out ahead. American's and japanese don't have that type of luck.

To get an idea of what i mean, just go look at the option list for a Porsche Boxster S. I priced one with almost every option and it stickered for $105,370. This again for a Boxster . Of course, options like the $8,000 ceramic brakes and such add upto the cost. But i was pretty surprised when the all the options added upto the base cost of the Boxster S. The base Boxster S costs $53k, and the options i checked off added another $52.3k. Only the Euro's would go that crazy.

Cadillac brought night vision, but all wheel steering was on 240sxs, as well as Preludes in the 80's.

True, but I honestly never saw the point. On a large truck, it makes quite a lot more sense.

never knew about it on the lude and 240, But I know that the first gen MX6's had it.

3000GT Vr4 and Dodge Stealth R/T turbo had them too. As did the 300zx TT.

Seemed like all wheel steering was big in the early to mid 90's and that the popularity just died down alltogether. Now, GM is the only player in the AWS segment. Atleast it's pretty useful in a large full-sized truck and serves more than just added weight.

In the 80's both the Japanese and the Americans thought that digital dashboards were so cool! :D

IMHO, Luck don't have much to do with it. The auto press has been kissing thier "arse" for a long time. To me, that's not luck!

A little off topic, a bit but anyway. Z28wilson- As far as your dash, I fixed it on my buddies blazer it took about 2 minutes once you get the dash out. Do a search on ebay for the fix for the dash. Its a couple resistors w/instructions, tells you exactly which ones to replace. Its really not that hard at all. He would ride around, and beat the crap out of the dash it would flicker. I couldn't take it anymore, so I fixed it for him. Check it out. If you can't find it let me know, I'll see if I can find out who exactly he got it from, it was maybe $20 if that. P.S GM are such followers ain't they!

I know. "luck" wasn't the correct word i had in mind. But we're on the same page in that the European automakers get past things American automakers would have recieved major scrutiny for. It's not just the press, it's the buying public too.

True...it is the buying public, many of which have been reading those articles. Its MO that after yrs. of digs thrown in here, and there about GM's crap eventually it starts to sink in. If one doesn't...say bleed Chevy Orange (like Me) this would be especially true. Someone without a preference would begin to believe this stuff, and hence, we get GM scared to put Anything risky out. The ban on racing, nader's book, all these things( and I'm sure I'm skipping over other stuff too), combined seemed to lead to a very conservative GM. This is why they let the others test the waters 1st. They are not treated equally when there's a problem.( remember the trucks rigged to explode movie style) nbc Bastards! Hopefully the tides are turning. My loyalty has been for thier awesome powertrains, interchageability, etc. I won't deny there was a bad time. IMHO though, that time has long passed, only problem is someone...AHEM, forgot to tell the general population. That chore rests on GM's shoulders now. I'll help if I can. When I see post like this it just reminds ME, GM are the Innovators in this business and that is why they are the #1 Automaker...IMO of course!

Yeah.. it's pretty subtle though. It just angles the rear wheels very slightly via computer control in emergency maneuvers as well as tight parking lot maneuvers.

I dont understand why some of you are so bitter that BMW is adding this feature. If GM had it then discontinued it, its purely their fault. one more reason to buy a bmw for me. and maybe more manafactures can start adding things like this to push cars into the future.
