How do I get into my steering column?

I need to get into my steering column (98 Z28) so I can pull out my ignition switch. I am going to bypass the VATS system. The wires are coming loose and it keeps throwing the "SECURITY" light so the car won't start. This has been a pain when I'm in a hurry. Any general or detailed advice/directions/instructions are GREATLY appreciated.
