What exactly is cam surge, not the symptoms, not how to fix it (would be nice to know some ways though) but just what causes it to occur and why does it occur when it does. Please as detailed as possible i would like to understand this theory as it occurs in my car and i thirst for knoweledge!

When my friend put his 306 cam in his Firebird, he had some cam surge. To try to describe as best I can remeber. It sounded like a real choppy idle, that would die down and then come back and choppy idle and die down again and repeat numerous times. It did it erraticly, not in any order. That all I know on this.

cam surge is when driving at a low enough speed that the car "surges". This is caused (somebody can probably explain in more detail) from the quality of the intake charge from the overlap of larger cams

Yeah basically the exhaust will polute the intake and cause this bucking sensation... basically you describe the physical traits of what I consider "cam surge" to be.
