Water spots!!! Arggghh

About 2 weeks ago I let my older brother "borrow" my Z for a week since I don't have much time to drive her on the week days; company vehicle. So, his garage is a little to small to open and close the doors "safely" so he keep the car outside. I also gave him an all weather car cover from California car cover; which he didn't use! So, I am having a tough time trying to get the dried water spots off my car and at the same time I don't want to create new swirl marks. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Go and buy a clay bar kit, then use it ;)

...Wash it? Any time I've ever had water spots, a simple car wash does the trick. I use Meguiar's NXT wash, works great at getting rid of the water spots after they've been baked on (atleast for me) and leaves the car looking great.

I washed it a couple days later after her return trip home and parked her in the garage to keep the UV's from killing it more. It isn't as bad as it was when I picked her up but I can still see some of the spots. I have a Zaino clay bar and was wondering if that would help to aleviate the remaining spots. I am a little worried about creating more swirl marks though. Even though it's almost unpreventable :rolleyes:

the claybar will definately do the trick

just make sure you use enough clay lube to prevent marring

Also try wiping them down with white vinegar, it is really good at removing water spots. If the clay and vinegar doesn't work you may need a mild abrasive to remove them.

Or, buy the clay bar from Clay Magic. They have three types each one getting more course than the next. You wont get any scratched from the fine, blue in color, one.

I dont get it, he left it outside for a couple of days and now you cant remove waterspots? I leave my car outside constantly and i dont have any, and if i do, i just wash the car and its all shiny again! Am i being dumb or something is kinda weird about this thread? i just dont see how leaving your car outside would leave such water spots that you cant remove :confused:

yeah waterspots usually come off with a regular wash, but maybe there was no wax on the car??? or is it possibly tree sap??? (=pita)

Just get a paint cleaner. It'll do the trick easy.

Likewise, I haven't heard of such harsh waterspots after being outside for a few days... sounds like acid rain or rain with high mineral contents, the waterspots being the leftover minerals. Since it's a Florida car, high mineral content is more likely (especially if you're by the water) because the salinity levels are so high. Salt in FL air is worse than the salt on MI roads in winter, but the huge difference is that people can't readily wash the salt off their cars in the middle of winter like they can wash year round in FL. That being said, my car's a daily driver (and when I say daily, I mean TRUE daily 365 year round) and garaged maybe half the time at most, and I've never had problems with water spots. You might want to look at getting a good car care system... I personally use Klasse All-In-One Paint Protection System, which creates an acrylic seal over your paint, then follow with Klasse Sealant Glaze, and then a good carnuba wax like P21S.

Mudpuppy I'm with you on this one. I was going to post regarding the same problem you are having. I washed my car three times last Sunday and still have water spots. I have used the Zaino clay bars successfully before, but I am out of them. I would suggest you try that, I'm going to order a claybar tomorrow.

I was also wondering if there is a quicker washing system than the Zaino polish. Here in FL the polish doesn't seem to last too long and I never have time to take care of it anymore. I can polish my car with 3-4 coats, wash my car once a week and sitll have baked in water spots in 3-4 weeks :mad: . It''s just not worth the time anymore to polish the car once a month. And if I were to pay someone to detail it that often I'd be better off getting a new paint job every couple of months :cry:
