I did not know if there is a usb cable for datalogging or programming? Could you give us details on exactly what you got from AKM?

If you did what I did at first, I didn't buy the little adapter to go with mine, so it wouldn't recognize the cars computer. But my cable is the serial one.

Give us more info?

Z

First off, I'm not aware of a USB connction to the OBD 1 comps. you need a serial cable from AKM that connects to the serial port on the back of the laptop.

As for USB connections, it sounds like your a bit confused. If you have 4 USB ports they ALL should work for whatever you plug in to them.

Your wrong there..

Maybe AKM will take there cable back and you can try one from moates.net. I have both serial and USB and the USB moates.net cable works flawlessly with Win 95+ software and OBD1

I have the USB cable from AKM and it works great. It doesnt matter which port you plug the cable into. My computer has 2 ports, but i can choose 1-5 or something. I will have my directions at home, but i just followed his steps and works good for me.

Seems like you tell it to default to com port 4, and then when you open up what ever logger/programmer you are using, tell it also to use com port 4. Thats just what i kind of remeber.

It doesnt matter which port i actually plug into, they both work.

Plug your cable into your laptop, windows should recognize new hardware.Insert CD ROM you got with cable, install drivers. To find out where your cable was installed go to control panel, then to system, then to hardware devices, then look at ports (com and lpt)look at com ports there. cable must be plugged in for com port to exsist. this is from directions that came with my cable, got it from akm electronics...

i had this problem when i built my cable. I use the serial connection for the cable but my new dell laptop dosent have a serial port so i bought a usb to serial adapter and it still wouldnt work so i ended up having to buy a pcmcia card that adds a serial connection to the laptop. after doing that i tune my 94 flawlessly. :D

good luck!

He bought a cable specifically for the USB port, so he doenst need to worry about any adapters or pcmcia cards.
