72 camaro stering upgrade?Runin2Nite 07-07-2005, 04:52 PM i have a 72 ss we gutted the car completly and i would like to upgrade the stering on it. i'm open to any ideas or suggestions. hoping to hear some stuff thats been done before for a reasonable amount of $$$$$ Rice Killer87 07-07-2005, 06:02 PM Get an IROC-Z steering gear and throw in there and itll handle like its on rails. We put one in my dads 71 SS 396 Chevelle and it worked great! Runin2Nite 07-08-2005, 06:30 PM sweet...did you have to costumize anything. all i need is the gear?? and do those have rac and pinion stering?? Runin2Nite 07-09-2005, 02:49 PM how about a manual stearing box. what kind of box can i get it out of. Rice Killer87 07-11-2005, 05:29 PM He had to take it apart and put in different stops b/c the Camaro and Chevelle inner fender wells are different so the tires wouldnt rub,but that was it. No,its not a rack and pinion steering, thats in the 4th gens. You can get a manual box out an any same generation Camaro,an S10 box will work but you have to get a different pitman arm though. But if your looking for good handling,I highly recommend that IROC-Z steering gear (steering gear box) and some bigger sway bars. | ||
