It's not a Camaro engine, but i have a 2.8 in my '82 S-10. I bought the truck two years ago from a buddy from at work. He had the engine rebuilt and a Jasper transmission put in it right before i bought it. It's been a great little truck. I've heard the 2.8 had some problems with top end lubrication. I've had no trouble at all. Will i get reliable service from the 2.8 with proper maintainence?

I think you will its a decent little motor, but even if you do trash it I trashed my 85 2.8L by over reving, replacements are pretty cheap, and if you wanted a 3.4L would bolt right in, using all your stock accessories and such.
Weakest part of a 2.8,3.1, and 3.4L v6 is that they all have cast aluminum pistons, when Iover reved my 2.8L, I shattered a piston.

My wife and I had an 89 Beretta GT that we sold in 96 with over 150,000 miles on it and it still ran great, but I am super anal about oil changes and the assorted maintenance, so that was probably a contributing factor.

Thanks for the comments. No need for me to worry about over reving, i've got the automatic. :D

What exactly do u mean by over reving? Reving too high or too much too high or both.....did that make sense? I hit 6000rpm in my 3.4L every once in a while and it still runs great.

the fuel injected 2.8 is a great little engine. it is a 60 degree block and shares is the same block as the 3.1 and 3.4 liter engine. i had a 2.8 in my 1987 firebird and it was VERY reliable. i had 245,000 ORIGINAL miles on it and only replaced the the basic tune-up stuff the whole time. my buddy has a 89 camaro with a 2.8 and it has 175, 000 original miles and he has only replaced the water pump on his. so yeah, they are reliable.....underpowered, yes, but reliable. now as far as the carbed version they had around for a while, i have no idea about those. hope this helped.

Its because they are underpowered that they are so reliable.
Unless you NAWZZZ:) it like a maniac and forget the window switch in the process.....they hardly ever break unless or.....u drive a stick and dump the clutch like a maniac and kill the thrust bearing.........sorry BROS! :):):G
