scyzoryk 06-28-2005, 09:51 PM I just got back from the dyno tuning and my tuner (Bryan from PCM for Less) let me know that I need new clutch. Car was running great, not a single problem except it made 340RWHP and 320RWTQ (224/230 with GTP Stage II, full exhaust, 6 speed) instead of 370RWHP as it should. It’s because the clutch wasn’t holding at all...Dyno sheet (http://community.webshots.com/user/1995camaroz28)
On the street it seemed that everything was okay, maybe sometimes it slipped when I shifter hard into 4th. But overall it was fine.
Anyway I need good street clutch (no track what so ever) that will hold 380-400RWHP. I heard that Spec 3 is the way to go, but since I won’t go to the track I was thinking about getting SLP Pressure Plate/Throwout Bearing and spec stage 2 disk or just go with SLP Package…
Sebastian
Ps. I am using 315 Nitto DR
Valkyn71 06-28-2005, 10:00 PM I like my spec stage 4 ceramic.
scyzoryk 06-28-2005, 10:05 PM How is it in the traffic??? I did some reading and it seems that Stage 4 is too hard in Stop/Go driving...
Sebastian
I like my spec stage 4 ceramic.
turbo_Z 06-28-2005, 10:08 PM I dont understand what leads you to believe the clutch was slipping on the run. It makes sense to me if it started to slip no power would be transfered to the rollers and the graph would fall off to zero.
turbo_Z 06-28-2005, 10:11 PM What changes did you make from the first to the third run? I see your car put down more power each run.
jchevy 06-28-2005, 10:12 PM If I were you I would look elsewhere for your missing HP. Im not saying your clutch wasnt slipping, but looking at the dyno graph I dont see any signs of a slipping clutch.
Your TQ curve looks pretty flat, if your clutch was slipping or your tires were spinning on the dyno it would look like the HP curve.
scyzoryk 06-28-2005, 10:33 PM First run was with old tunning, second was already tuned by Bryan, and third one was with open cutout (I have Flowmaster exhaust)...

scyzoryk 06-28-2005, 10:37 PM How do I know that the clutch was bad??? Here is what the Bryan said (he did the dyno pulls), I was just watching it from 10 feet away ;)
"The air/fuel and spark that we ran in 3rd gear and dialled in is the same as what 4th would have. Just the way it was smoking from the clutch area and how it would spin freely for a few seconds and then try to catch it again with the clutch slipping"
I will upload some videos of the dyno runs...
Sebastian
ps. Bryan is a great guy to deal with. I highly recommend him!! Thanks Bryan!!

scyzoryk 06-29-2005, 02:43 PM so witch clutch is the most streetable for my application Spec Stage 2 maybe 3 or SLP??
Thanks
Sebastian
madwolf 06-29-2005, 02:59 PM I have a Spec Stage 3. Very streetable once you get used to it. I'll go with a Stage 4 next time because it doesn't have the springs and those tend to fall off on 2s and 3s. An SLP will probably have the best driveability but most likely won't last as long before it starts slipping.

whatsup 06-29-2005, 04:17 PM I've been running the Spec II for over a year now with no problems. That's with two trips to the track, drag radials and spraying. I am sold on Spec!!! It is very drivable....I didn't notice any dif in feel over the stocker. The Spec II and III use the same p.plate....disc is only difference. If my disc goes I'm planning on just buying the stage III disc and putting it in.

I will be interested to see what your re-dyno with a new clutch. Please post a link in this thread when you do.
swemdog 06-29-2005, 05:38 PM Did you get that really nasty burning clutch smell? I had that a couple times in my 94 when it spun really bad and didn't grab.
Purplemaroz28 06-29-2005, 05:47 PM will a new stock clutch hold on a le2 setup with emmissions cam .. suppose to be making 375 to the wheels, or should i get a new clutch?
scyzoryk 06-29-2005, 05:55 PM It won't...

speed_demon24 07-01-2005, 02:04 PM My SLP clutch is holding 375rwhp without a sweat so far...

buzz12586 07-05-2005, 04:31 PM Where can I buy one of these Spec clutches??
Josh'95Z28conv 07-05-2005, 11:23 PM Where can I buy one of these Spec clutches??
Dont buy one unless you buy a stage 4. Anything with a sprung hub is junk. Period.
scyzoryk 07-06-2005, 01:34 AM That was the old design (stage 2 & 3)! They have new one that doesnt breake!!! Do some research!
Sebastian
ps. You can purchase them at ebay (for example)...

Does the kit come with everything I need?? I found them at Thunder Racing.

buzz12586 07-06-2005, 12:12 PM Now the question is should I go with the Stage 3 or Stage 4??
scyzoryk 07-06-2005, 01:16 PM From I have read, stage 3 has great ability to hold large mounts of power, but at the same time is very streetable.. Stage 4 is much more aggressive...
I will go with Stage 3, since I dont see any track time...
Sebastian
Now the question is should I go with the Stage 3 or Stage 4??
buzz12586 07-06-2005, 01:40 PM I see the track maybe once and month. Most of my action is on the street ;) Sounds like I will be going with stage 3.

Umm, do your own research. Spec sucks. Period. My friend just broke his stage 3, and it was a new style. I see a new post here at least once a week about a spec breaking. A new one that doesnt break, give me a ****ing break. They havnt changed the design in the sprung hub recently, I just talked to them about it  Its the same setup thats been coming apart for a while now. Dont come around here trying to get people to buy a pos clutch when you dont know what you're talking about.
If you buy a spec, and want it to last, buy a stage 4.
DONT BUY A SPEC WITH A SPUNG HUB!!!!!!!!
scyzoryk 07-07-2005, 01:47 AM Do a search...For each one person that had problems with Spec 3, 10 other people didn't. I have a friend that uses Spec 3 for 2 years now and don’t have any issues with it.
And for the last part, did I recommend SPEC 3??? Read my post and STFU...I just said that I will go with it; no recommend it to anybody...
Sebastian
ps. Try to be nicer next time. I just post my ****ing opinion!!!

Kraest 07-07-2005, 02:04 PM I have the Spec Stage 3 in my Vette and my buddy has one in his Z06.
I also had one in my 440+ rwhp Camaro.
They all worked flawlessly.

buzz12586 07-07-2005, 05:21 PM Awesome. Glad to hear most people are having good luck with it.

Hey man, you told him they changed their design (they havnt), and you told him the new design dont break  Even if they did redisign it (they didnt), whos to say it doesnt break. How would you know. Even if they told me that, I wouldnt believe it with their reputation.
scyzoryk 07-08-2005, 01:18 AM They had changed the design (twice)!!!! And I know that it works because my friend has stage 3 in his car (430RWHP), for over 2 years now. And it works just fine...
Sebastian
Peace!!!

They changed it quite a while back, and they're still breaking. Spec told me they havnt changed anything recently though. It dont matter how much power you are putting down, Im under 300rwhp. How many miles does he have on his?
