4.10's or 4.56's?

I've been happy with the level of performance of my car since I got it those years ago.

Year after year it makes me smile when I drive it.
I have only every insured it for 3 monthes at a time - so it really does seem like a new car to me when I get on it every summer.

This year I've decided to spend a bit of money on it and add a mod that will be relitively simple yet contribute to a needed seat of the pants feel.

Steeper gears is my choice.

Thing is, I wish for more acceleration - but I don't and never will take my car to the track and give it the hard launches that I read breaks our glass 10 bolts. I plan to as always be easy on it on the road also.

Since I don't spend a great deal of time in it - fuel economy is not much of a concern.

I know that people here have both gearsets so I'm hoping to get opinions on both.

If anyone happens to have part numbers for GM motives in both gearsets, that would be a huge help.:)

with the 4.56 gears 1st would be about useless. Ive got 4.11's and they seem to be a good all-around gear.

since u only drive the car a few months out of the year id say go with the 4:56s, on the street that would be crazy fun. but whats the worst that could happen, you dont like them becuase they are to much on the street and you can sell them and for some 4:10s but at least youd know that up front..

just my .02

with a M6, for sure, go with 4.10s, they greatly improve the seat of the pants feel, and with the double overdrive, shouldn't drasticly affect you gas mileage

Gee, I should have done a poll thread........

At first I was rather sold on the 4.10's - now I'm giving some serious thought to the 4.56's.

Who makes a 4:56 gear set for the 10 bolt??? Richmond?..ive never seen that ratio sold anywhere. From the way you say you drive, why not go for 4:56's :D...i cant wait to get my 4:11's installed this week

i had a buddy with 4.56's in he SS and didn't like them. he said it was just too much gear. in spite of that, if the car RPM's good(say around 7000) 4.56's should be good. also if your looking to make a cheap 1/8th mile car. other than that, i'd go with the 4.10's

4.10s would be fine for playing around on the street. They will give you a nice kick in the pants, and really help you out playing stoplight warrior. I don't know how long first would be useable with 4.56s.....anyone?

i have 4:30's and don't really care for them, 1st gear is useless and wheelspin is outta control. 4:10's would be plenty. just my .02

What kind of tires are you planning on using? 4.56s are a lot of gear but the T56 has a pretty long first so if you've got the traction they'd be great off the line :)
