I would like to relocate my waterpump to a remote location to clear up some space. First I need to understand how the coolant flows through the block, why are there 4 ports on the lt1 waterpump? Which direction does it flow and which ports does it flow through?

Coolant goes into the motor on the top ports up to the cylinder heads, returning from the block to the radiator on the bottom ports. A remote pump could be used with 2 supplies & 2 returns to the rad.
The complicated pump setup is due to the integral thermostat, which could be remotely mounted as well.

"BigRick" had a remote mount water pump setup on his car at thunder. Pretty interesting. He simply had some AN fittings welded into the block, and I believe it was a meziere remote water pump bolted to the driver's side frame rail.
Talk about a nice amount of $$$ in AN fittings for that job. Ouch!
