Turbo Questions

Well here is a setup im thinking about fabbing up on my car. Im going to pretty much clone the ptk with the exception of the headers. I want to use a set of shorties that are 1 5/8 in primarys(are they large enough?). The plan is off the passenger side header run a cross over to the driversside, dump the drivers side into the crossover where it will run into the turbo mounted by the radiator. The question is will these headers flow enough air? Then routing the down pipe back to the car is another challenge. Im assuming that most kits run the down pipe under the k member of the car?

Well here is a pic i drew up in like 5 secs lol. Any input would be nice.

Thanks.

It’s going to be very tight to run the cross over to the driver’s side and still have the DP go over the k-member on the driver’s side as well. Most likely with pre made shorties, you’ll have fitment issues like I am going to have with my setup. PTK’s Gen 2 setup I believe has the crossover pipe go from the driver’s side to the passenger’s side. Just study the pics as best as possible. The steering linkage is a limiting factor. Good luck.

Ceramic coating would be a good addition. Also, depending on how much boost you intend to run, you probably won't need that large wastegate with that turbo.

BTW most turbo kits, including PTK, run the downpipe above the K-member.

From what I've heard lately the Tial 44mm wastegates are difficult to find right now. Something to do with a lack of castings.

You can get them on ebay, but its tough to get the silver polished ones. I just got one for my boss (anodized blue). Shipped and received within 7 days of purchase from ebay.

Use a turbosmart gate...much better. We did some testing on Tial's vs Turbosmart gates. Turbosmarts flat out blew the Tial's away. Heck their 38mm ultragate keep my PTE88 at 6-7psi steady...can't beat that with a stick.

They are $279 each and they come with a 253 valve so you can run race fuel all day long on them.

Damn I wish I would have bought them back when I was putting everything together. They're not much more than the Tial. My twin 7 psi Tial gates keep the 355 at 10 psi

I'll have to remember those when I get back to work on my non-fbody twin turbo project. :)
