Need battery help fast!

My car has had an issue for the last week were it may/may not start. It seemed the battery wasn't allowing the starter to crank enough. So tonight it wouldn't start, that was the final straw.

Anyway, I got a new battery, and was removing the old battery and the Positive terminal BROKE OFF :mad: I look at the tray and area around it, and it looks like its been leaking a while. I got the hose out and sprayed the areas for 5 or so minutes, then took a rag, and wiped up as much as possible.

The question is there is some discoloration in the paint right by the two coolant hoses that come off the water pump, and there are some areas that are discolored on the coolant hoses mentioned above.

Should I be worried? Is there something more I should do? Please let me know ASAP. I am worried about the paint, and the hoses pretty bad right now.

Err... Also, I can't get the part that broke off unscrewed from the bolt.
I have tried to clam with pliers and the plastic just strips.
Any suggestions on that would be great too...

:cool: Dont panic :eek: Wash the area down with a mix of baking soda and water in a glass with a brush. Or just pour it on and let it soak a bit. That will get rid of any acid left. As for the paint if its inside the compartment no biggy go to GM and get a 8oz can of SOM paint and just respray it a bit. Cut the corroded clamp off at the end as close to the lead as possible. Go to any auto part place and get a new 1 splice it on. Or spluge for a complete new wire and install it its easy well sorta easy. :D The battery acid shouldnt really have hurt the hoses at all. But if in doubt change them.

I got therminal off with some more work with locking vice grips...

I don't have any baking soda, should I get some?
How long will the acid remain corrosive, even after thouroughly hosed down?

:cool: If you washed it down really well and it hadnt been on the paint all that long. You should be ok. I would just hose off the whole area again and call it a day. Its only going to harm the paint at its worst. Rust in the trays is another thing. Repaint it flat black or anything you have around. :D
