Got a few questions for LS1.
Got a few questions for LS1.
Hey guys I plan on getting ls1 very soon and was just wondering about a few things.
So far I believe that stock ls1 will run mid to low 13s with m6, does that sound right?
What's are the speed and rev limitor set at on ls1?
When do you usually shift when drag race?
I've done a lot of work to my 4 cyl hyundai all by myself including all new suspension, full exhaust, intake, etc. I was wondering how hard would it be to do some bolt ons with jack stands on my driveway?
thanks a lot

~Correct with a good driver faster times are possible
What's are the speed and rev limitor set at on ls1?
~ Mine is set at about 6100rpms
When do you usually shift when drag race?
~.00001 seconds before fuel cutoff

1. 160mph if ur car came with Z rated tires from the factory, 118 otherwise
2. id assume somewhere north of 6100, heh
3. Not too hard, and they respond very very well...
Re: Got a few questions for LS1.
i think the actual rev limiter is 6200, but the tachs are very well known for being slow to respond. so it tends to look like the limiter is lower than it actually is.
that is why a shift light is a good idea, so you don't have to depend on a slow tach.
most guys will shift at around 6100 so that they actually have a little room prior to the limiter kicking in.
with the z rated tires the computer speed limiter is like 168 i beleive.
these cars are very easy to mod, and respond very well. you can get 350 hp at the wheels with basic bolt ons and a tune. and 400+ with those boltons and a decent cam, 425+ with heads.

Thanks for great replies guys. I was told that speed limitor can be easily removed with some programmer
The thing with the moding, I meant to ask how much harder comparing to a 4 cyl car would moding be? I have very easy access to the headers and everything in my car, but looks like ls1 is all hidden. How many of you put some headers on your own driveway?
thanks

Re: Got a few questions for LS1.
did headers in the driveway. not a horrible experience, jsut time consuming. i did a full write up on it in the website in my signature, page 11 i think.
took me 10hrs from start to start up.

Re: Got a few questions for LS1.
Yeah! That's only 4 cylinders dude! And the manifold is easy to get to. I did my headers in my garage, w/ the car on ramps. It took me 14 hours, but WELL worth it. It's a rewarding experience, just like modding ANY car yourself. If you have never driven a mildly modded F-body, then I HIGHLY recomend it!! I used to be a 4 banger guy before I got my LS1. I used to have an 85 Firebird w/ a v6 so I was allways into the F-bodys. I had a cavalier that I was throwing parts at.
I finally traded it for the Camaro and it was a night and day difference it torque and over all power. I converted a Maxima guy back home and got him hooked. He's foaming at the mouth for a chance to get his hands on a 98-02 F-body. All I did was take him for a rip! Some of the mods, yes, are dificult to get to just because it seems that they built the car around the motor. But, again, WELL worth it. They respond well to even mild modifications.... ie, high flow airbox lid= 10hp.... Just from a lid and a filter. And these mods become even more valuable as you start adding more and more parts....
Hope that helps....

Re: Got a few questions for LS1.
"I swapped headers on my and other 4 cyl hyundais at least 5 times now and last time I did it, it took me 45 minutes"

well duh... 1/2 the bolts, 1/2 the plugs, 1/2 the wires, 1/2 the install effort
2 hours of my install was just messing with getting the car high enough on the jackstands in the driveway. a lift would have made it probably a 8 hour job or less.

Do you plan on breaking 160-170 MPH often?
