What tools do I need to rebuild my t56?
Re: What tools do I need to rebuild my t56?
Basic hand tools and a really good set of snapring pliers, removing the bajillion snaprings is the most frustrationg part of this experience. Acces to a presss and a bearing separator i\would be really nice, but you could fashion up a gear puller if in a pinch. You also need a nice large clean work surface so that you can lay everything out in the proper order as you disassmble. As far as rebuild kits go, I have had good luck with "the gear box" on ebay. Also, if your reverse is grinding you likely need an entire reverse synchro b/c the blocker ring is made of brass and the synchro itself damages pretty easily, at least in my experience.
If you have this badboy apart anytime soon, check out my ? below about the matchmarks on the synchros and see if you can answer which orientation they are supposed to go (if any) from the factory (toward or away from the bellhousing)

I'll definitly take a look when it is dissassembled. But it will be 2 or 3 months. I've got to make the money to buy the rebuild kit and stuff. I'm making $330/week after taxes now, so it shouldn't be too long. Damn payment for my TA is $280/month until November, then its paid off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
