Chrysler Adding Durango-Based Ute

A new luxury SUV will appear in Chrysler showrooms within the next year, the Detroit News says. As TCC reported last year, Chrysler will get a version of the Durango seven-passenger SUV to sell. The new vehicle will get some upscale details, the News reports, but major changes to the Durango basics aren't in the plan for the vehicle. The paper adds Chrysler will resurrect a name from its vault for the new SUV and will build it alongside the Durango in Newark, Del.

I wonder what name they they will resurrect to put on an SUV? Maybe "New Yorker"? :o

That would be kind of cool if they brought back the New Yorker name on a Escalade-ish Darango sized SUV.

What about "Newport?"

I have a friend who used to have a '72 Newport. Big effin car with a six body trunk at least. Technically that's from the vault, but there's nothing attached to the name.

On the other hand, could they call it Newport and not get sued by the cigarette people?

It's kind of a stretch, but it would fit in the sense of it being a large luxury family hauler....I can't think of what else could be dug up and used.... Hmmmm...

If its based on the current Durango, they need to reskin it entirely! It looks like they stuck an air hose in the old one and inflated it. Its the worst styled vehicle dcx sells.

They should call it the Fandango.

The name has been selected....

It will be....... :drumroll:

Chrysler Aspen

[thud]

Chrysler Durango Is Aspen

The new full-size SUV to join the Chrysler brand next year will be dubbed the Aspen, according to a report in The Detroit News. The new ute will be a version of the Dodge Durango seven-passenger SUV and will arrive in Chrysler showrooms in 2006. The name Aspen, of course, was applied to a Chrysler sedan from the 1970s that was plagued by recalls along with its twin, the Plymouth Volare. Chrysler is expected to show a version of the SUV at the Detroit auto show in January.

Brings back memories of my mom's 1979 Dodge Aspen wagon... baby poop brown with baby poop brown vinyl interior

I don't understand why they would pull a Dodge name and put is on a Chrysler...... let alone a name with basically zero worth.

should of been Imperial ..

even sounds like an upscale SUV name..

Chrysler Imperial with its 360HP HEMI engine and AWD. (as you see the commecial the SUV comes rolling over a nice manacured lawn rolling over small bushes and pulls up to a house lined down the driveway with other luxo cars and cuts of a MB ;) and pulls up to the valet..and the girl getting out of thecar says whewww.thought we would never make it..)

"ariving in style dosnt mean you have to follow everyone else!"
