t56 harder to shift while car is moving??

When the car is stopped, I can hold the clutch down and shift into 1st to 6th like butter, but while the car is moving, its not as easy. 5th gear can only be reached from 4th. If i try to downshift from 6th, or shift in and out of 5th, its impossible while the car is moving. Ive never driven a t-56 before, is this normal?

Many times, when i shift from 4th to 5th, the shifter will go in the space but when i let the clutch go, i hear a grinding and there is no engagement, so i have to keep the clutch down, bring it into 4th and push it back into 5th again to make sure it engages.

The transmission is rebuilt, i swapped by a4 for this thing. It had some synchros replaced. I had no replies in the drivetrain forum. Thanks.

I just had this problem and it turned out that my main bearing was on its way out and eventually shredded and destroyed my clutch.

Before I had mine rebuilt, it did the same thing....only access to 5th gear would be coming from 4th. I could not down shift into 5th from 6th. I had it rebuild and had the steel 3-4 shift fork installed and along with the rebuild my 2nd and 3rd gears were trashed and had all the synchro's replaced. No idea why that would affect something like 5th gear issue. Has to be a synchro issue...all I had to do was put the gear selector in 4th and then it would go into 5th with out even releasing the clutch pedal. Good luck w/ it.

Sounds like your clutch isn't releasing all the way, might want to check the hydraulics. It will cause major problems down the road like ruining your transmission.

I have the same problem and i am currently tearing my t-56 down to try to find the problem.. I highly doubt it is the clutch since I had an 800series McLeod clutch in it when the problem started, then I swapped a street twin in with an adjustable master cylinder, adjusted it PERFECTLY and I still had the problem..

Oh yeah, I also had the synchros all replaced while doing the street twin, and I still had the problem.. I think it may be a bent shift fork (I didnt think to replace the 3/4 fork  )
