305 hp HF 3.6 V6?Z284ever 06-05-2005, 07:09 PM http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15611&page=1&pp=20 Pandamonkey 06-05-2005, 07:52 PM That would be pretty cool. AronZ28 06-05-2005, 09:01 PM I bet by the time GM gets it out, Infiniti, Lexus, BMW will all have moved on to even higher horsepower motors. 0toinsanein5.4sec 06-05-2005, 09:23 PM thatd be very good. gm needs to get it out quickly. muckz 06-05-2005, 11:41 PM I bet by the time GM gets it out, Infiniti, Lexus, BMW will all have moved on to even higher horsepower motors. It is a potential engine designed by a few hardcore engineers who know what sells and gets blood boiling. Later, though, this will have to pass through multi levels of management, and various studies will have to be done whether it's necessary. The conclusion will be that I5 will do just fine with 220 HP, and there is no need for more horsepower. Then the japanese big 3 will release motors well beyond that, as AronZ28 said, and GM will revisit the issue again. And then they will release their fight-back engine, but will choose to save on costs, and it will produce 275 HP, which will be plenty for any need imaginable. dav305z 06-06-2005, 12:10 AM I just don't get this. Of all the thigs GM needs, it does not need another 300hp engine for mid-size applications. It needs a transmission that can handle 300hp midsize applications, but not engines. The 5.3 LS4 and even the 3800 S/C are both solid 300hp engines (the L67 can do it with a smaller pulley and freer flowing exhaust). Sure you can say that Caddy's need the 3.6, but let me ask you this: if the Caddies have a 300hp V6 then what will they do with their 320 hp V8 option? More importantly, how impressive would this state of the art engine seem if it actually was put in one of the FWD cars and saddled to the state of the 1980's 4T65-E tranny? I'm not saying this is bad news. I'm just saying that I'm not all that excited. Exactly... :( centric 06-06-2005, 12:33 AM GM: Don't over-think this. Don't over-analyze this. Don't wait. DO IT -- NOW! 90 Z28SS 06-06-2005, 01:36 AM Sure you can say that Caddy's need the 3.6, but let me ask you this: if the Caddies have a 300hp V6 then what will they do with their 320 hp V8 option? Should the need arise , and the time is coming ...I would not be hard thing to boost the northstar hp ratings up to the 350-375 range . As far as the transmissions go , all I gotta say is GM used to be the industry standard in transmissions and the new 6 speed auto , when it does finally debut will probably carry on the tradition :) Z284ever 06-06-2005, 01:42 AM Should the need arise , and the time is coming ...I would not be hard thing to boost the northstar hp ratings up to the 350-375 range . Northstar's on borrowed time. 90 Z28SS 06-06-2005, 01:45 AM Northstar's on borrowed time. care to elaborate a lil on that one :) Z284ever 06-06-2005, 01:50 AM Northstar may be replaced by a new architecture in the next couple years. I think GMI had a story about it afew months ago. | ||
