Converter opinions

What do you guys think?

I'm going with a 224/236 .535/.554 @ .050" cam on a 112 LSA in my stock bottomed '94 Z28. 3.42 gear, stock heads, longtubes, misc boltons.

i need to decide on a converter and wondering which you guys think is better.

YANK STEALTH 3000
298mm, 3000 Stall, 1.95 STR

YANK SUPER STOCK 3200
245mm, 3200 stall, 2.1 STR

i know the smaller converter will be better (rotating mass, etc.) will the higher STR and extra stall speed be worth the extra money??? i will be keeping this as my daily driver and want it to be very streetable. i'm interested to know what you guru's think.

One a smaller diamiter converter will create more heat in the tranny. And being a daily driver that could cause tranny problems. If you decide to go with the smaller diamiter converter add a external tranny cooler. This will help keep the tranny temps down. I run the Super Yank 3500, 245 mm converter with a 1.6 STR with an external cooler and still everytime the tranny has been rebuilt (5 times) the 3/4 clutch packs are burnt up. Two with 3.42 gears you are problably better off with the 298 mm converter (3000 stall). I don't think you will gain much but trouble with the small diamiter converter, and little gains especially being a daily driver. Just me two cents. Good luck. :D

i am adding an external cooler when i do it. thanks for the help.

I say go with the smaller one I have a 2800 Edge in my car and it runs nice and cool other have experianced this too. Mine is a high STR up around 2.4 or so I think that is hvyss's problem the low STR makes for lesser low speed drivability and builds more heat.
