I have the oppertunity to get a dual-snorkel from a '88 MPI Camaro. I have wanted one of those for ever, but could never find one.
Which is better performance wise?

Which is better? Open element or dual-snorkel?85_305 05-25-2005, 05:25 PM I have the oppertunity to get a dual-snorkel from a '88 MPI Camaro. L69. 85_305 05-25-2005, 05:51 PM Will a dual-snorkel's performance be noticable better than my single-snorkel intake right now? Zdrrguy 05-25-2005, 05:53 PM I have the oppertunity to get a dual-snorkel from a '88 MPI Camaro. I have wanted one of those for ever, but could never find one. Which is better performance wise? Do you mean the Iroc air cleaner setup from a TPI ??? That is the best setup and attach it to your stock air cleaner without the sensor . True ram air . 85_305 05-25-2005, 06:13 PM ^Actually it is from an '88 Camaro w/ multi-port-injection :) It has 2-intakes; it looks a LOT like the LS1 assembly; it curves downward by the radiator, and looks totally awesome  Dave89IROC 05-25-2005, 06:34 PM look at the first pic on page 2, that is a TBI 305 with a 2.8L MPI air cleaner http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=387293 85_305 05-25-2005, 06:38 PM ^Ya, that looks about it :) But my air-cleaner is TONS bigger, lol. Dave89IROC 05-25-2005, 06:43 PM ^Ya, that looks about it :) But my air-cleaner is TONS bigger, lol. yeah, so was mine, but I used the filters from the 2.8 air cleaner, and got the couplers, a piece of 3" pipe and the T/B "hat" from a 98 Dodge Dakota 3.9/5.2/5.9 engine Zdrrguy 05-25-2005, 06:53 PM The Black V part of the air cleaner is what i was refering to ........best setup ........i'm looking for 1 for my TBI 305 . Pneumatic_Tire 05-25-2005, 06:57 PM Go dual snorkel Matt. Open element will actually suck in hot engine bay air and keep performance down. The dual snorkel will constantly get fresher, cool air from outside being that its closed in and air can only get sucked in from areas away from the hot engine bay air. Plus, it can increase effiecincey at higher speeds where the cooler outside air will be rammed into the snorkels. Zdrrguy 05-25-2005, 07:00 PM Go dual snorkel Matt. That is very true, but I was not sure if the open element would just flat-out draw in more air than the dual-snorkel, negating the effects of the hot air being drawn in. But how would the car be more efficient at high-speeds w/ the dual-snorkel? Another question: Is the stock-tubing decently sized to handle enough air, or should I up the tubing size? Pneumatic_Tire 05-25-2005, 07:51 PM Well, i could be wrong, since i never had a dual snorkel, but it appears as if it should act very similar to ram air. Cold air being forced into the air intake when driving at higher speeds. Air gets cooler the faster it moves. You know what im trying to say. I cant explain crap good in words for some reason. lol. 85_305 05-25-2005, 08:07 PM ^lol, ya I get what your trying to say. Especiallyo since where the intake is actually located, it is basically a LID for an LS1 car the way it sucks the air up  respectirocz 05-26-2005, 12:38 AM in my opinion the air cleaner itself is not so restricive as to significantly benefit from an open element, the flow rate is probably increased by a minimal amount however the dual snorkel (at first i thought u meant the h.o. dual snorkel, not the tpi snorkel) is superior simply by design, it draws cooler air and more of it. thats my two cents robvas 05-26-2005, 08:38 AM You want the L69 one. I don't like the looks of that one on that cardomain page http://home.earthlink.net/~kiszka/dual_air_intake_procedure.html iansane 05-26-2005, 12:18 PM Well, i could be wrong, since i never had a dual snorkel, but it appears as if it should act very similar to ram air. Ram Air is a myth. :) The new setup will definately suck better air than the hot underhood stuff. go with that. :D Z28SORR 05-26-2005, 12:28 PM You want the L69 one. I don't like the looks of that one on that cardomain page http://home.earthlink.net/~kiszka/dual_air_intake_procedure.html Yah, this is definitely the one you want. Cold air and lots of it. And I believe you can still get the parts from Chevy. mako350Z28 05-26-2005, 03:52 PM Unless the engine is going to draw more than 700 cfm, the TPI intake will work just fine. A TPI 350 only draws about 540 cfm so your modified 305 will probably draw about the same. 85_305 05-26-2005, 05:07 PM You want the L69 one. I don't like the looks of that one on that cardomain page http://home.earthlink.net/~kiszka/dual_air_intake_procedure.html Wowzers is that a nice looking intake  mako350Z28- The car has a 600cfm Edelbrock on it, so I am assuming that's what it will be pulling in  BTW, do you guys think that my stock air-cleaner assembly will be ok, or should I get a bigger/smaller one? Your flexable hosing from the air cleaner should hook right up to it .......less the sensor of course . turn your air cleaner the same way as in the picture and it hooks up perfect !! mako350Z28 05-26-2005, 05:37 PM mako350Z28- The car has a 600cfm Edelbrock on it, so I am assuming that's what it will be pulling in  BTW, do you guys think that my stock air-cleaner assembly will be ok, or should I get a bigger/smaller one? OK, 600 cfm. Still, the TPI air intake will work just fine. The stock air cleaner should be ok to use. 85_305 05-26-2005, 06:43 PM why waste the money .......the stock air cleaner does work well .......a buddy of mine did his that way . Actually what I meant was will the stock-sized air-cleaner be able to provide sufficient air-flow 85_305 05-26-2005, 06:44 PM The stock air cleaner should be ok to use. Alright, thank you Mako  | ||
