I don't believe any 1.5 DINs are made anymore... Pioneer maybe, but otherwise it's all single DIN... so it looks like you're going to need one of those install kits.

Not to mention if I remember correctly, the 3rd gens need the install kit anyways due to the very shallow mounting depth.

I've got a Pioneer din+1/2 in my basement... replaced it with a single-din mp3. I like the mp3 capability of the new deck (Pioneer also), but IMHO it doesn't look as nice as the old din+1/2 deck looked.

Yeah, those Pyle din+1/2's are kinda wierd looking, but a perfect fit... tough call on that one, and I wasn't aware of them when I bought my new deck.

I needed to modify the interior of my dash to fit the new deck - the single din is deeper than the din+1/2's. Nothing major, though.

If you can find one of those 1/2din EQ's to fit in under a single din deck it might look OK. But they're few and far between - and I've never seen one in the current silver colour scheme.

I believe there are only 2 1 1/2 din head units still made and neither one is very good. However I suggest that you DO NOT get the pyle unit. Its total crap at best.

People told me panasonic was crap and i got that in my altima, been great, hopefully if I go for it that ends up the same.

Ya, the problem is that it still sticks out. Wonder if GM is still using the 1.5 DIN?

It's pretty easy man...all you need to do is remove the piece of plastic that holds the back of the stock h/u. My 1 din radio is flush

Alpine makes some 1 1/2 DIN, all expensive of course.

Model numbers are CDA-D853, CDA-D855, CDA-D857.

Not even found on their site, maybe getting old, but they also don't seem to do mp3s.

Looks like i'm gonna cut pull out whatever blocks the 1 dins from going all the way in and use a kit to support a 1 din and aloow me a 1/2 din space for whatever.

Alpine discontinued their 1.5 din radios, and they didn't play MP3s. AFAIK, Pioneer is the only "name" that still makes a 1.5, and it doesn't play MP3s.

Dependent on how anal you are on sound quality (I'm ANAL) the AVIC-N1 and N2 have crap for internals anyhow. Excelon series Kenwood is good as well as believe it or not...JVC. Shop around for the best price

Have no fear... it's not that much work, and the deck fits flush (as ChicagoTransAm pointed out). I just figured I'd let ya know that they won't simply "drop in", at least from my experience.
