SScamaro2000 05-24-2005, 01:27 AM Guys i could really use some help on this one, i am torn between different exhaust systems. I just got a 2000 Camaro SS 6 spd with 37k miles. I love it but its a little bit to quiet for me. I am going for an exhaust system that will 1) let peeps know im coming 2) sounds mean and aggresive. Friend of mine suggested SLP loudmouth with no cats, but it seemed a little raspy and just annoying. Another buddy of mine said either HOOKER exhaust system, or a Borla system. I REALLY wanna order this stuff soon so any advice or opinions or experiences with exhaust would be great.
SScamaro2000 05-24-2005, 01:30 AM Dont mind that spelling error under poll :) its late
AronZ28 05-24-2005, 01:32 AM First thing you should do is cut the muffler off and weld a straight pipe back to the bumper. This setup is quite loud, but unless you really have your foot in it, it is no louder than a semi truck. The cops have left me alone, but then I've never opened it up in front of them either. ;)
This setup does drone on the interstate, but it is bearable, just turn up the radio. As far as sound goes, it sounds great, like a V8 should sound.
BTW I have the stock manifolds and cats on my car.
teke184 05-24-2005, 07:29 AM i say magnaflow
aluminized pipes, stainless polished muffler, EXTREMELY good flow, and i think you can get them for under $400 on ebay still.
with no cats they get a bit raspy on top end...but with cats it's NICE.
SSpdDmon 05-24-2005, 09:25 AM If you're going cat-less, I'd suggest the Borla. That was my setup on my '99 SS and I loved it. Not too noisy when you close the system up so it all flows through the muffler. But when you open it up, it will definately let people know you're coming.

Slappy3243 05-24-2005, 10:24 AM I voted other and I advise you to go with the GMMG catback. I was in the same situation as you. I heard most of them in person and the GMMG sounded the best in my opinion. It just sounds really muscular but it is not bad at all on the highway for long trips. It is expensive though.
Go with the GMMG. I have it on a 2000 SS 6 speed. Sounds perfect when you get on it but not too loud cruising on trips.

I'd have to agree. GMMG is a great sounding catback. Great quality too.
taguy001 05-24-2005, 05:52 PM I'd go with borla or corsa, if you're looking at getting a cheaper exhaust the hooker cat back is really good for the price.
BirchMan98z 05-24-2005, 09:39 PM Borla blows GMMG away, in my opinion.
CrabhartZ28 05-24-2005, 10:46 PM LM II if you arn't getting headers, Hooker if you are.

TSP Rumbler. It also outflows every system but the LoudMouth.
psychocabbage 05-25-2005, 08:05 AM borla.. .the $600 cutout..
if you want high dollar, corsa or B&B triflo.. if you want cheap get dynomouth.. if you want the best, get true duals.. Lanes has not gotten one ill review yet that I have seen.. And If I werent keeping my car stock, I would get an exhaust by Lanes..

importeater 05-25-2005, 09:15 AM SLP 2OTL!!!!!!!! great rumble and gets LOUD but sounds AWESOME!

I had a magnaflow. Way too quiet for my tastes(didn't hear it on the interstate though). Nice sound, but way too quiet. I think it was as quiet at idle as the stock exhaust.
teke184 05-25-2005, 12:30 PM "I think it was as quiet at idle as the stock exhaust"
it was slightly louder. i know i could never hear my exhaust at idle from inside the car, but the MF i could barely make it out.
and when reved up...oh yeah...
i mean, 1/2 the exhaust flow is directed out the passenger side tailpipe without any baffleing or sound deadening...the other half is sent through the muffler.
that is why it flows so well and sounds so loud when really reved
BirchMan98z 05-25-2005, 07:55 PM lol borla= $600 cutout? Good info--- except it's not. Bypassing the muffler is optional. Most people get the best results from using one of the plates that flows a portion of the air through the muffler. Around $650-750 depending on which tips you go with.
Tri-flow is a good system, but the tips look out of place on fbodies (too big) and corsa sounds like v6 exhaust in my opinion. $845 for the B&B, and $650-775 for corsa depending on tip styles (Corsa is another one that in my opinion sounds worse the more heavily the car is modded).
Loudmouth will definitely let people know you're coming, but that's a system that's very polar. Some people hate it, some people love it. about $350 for this system.
Magnaflow is very quiet, if you're looking for loud and aggressive, i'd not recommend that one. about $400-425 SLP systems cost about the same.
GMMG is ugly and sounds goofy in my opinion. Too generic. Might as well get a flowmaster and be done with it. around $700 without tips, $850 WITH the tips.
Check out http://www.ls1sounds.com and decide which one appeals to you most. Everyone has a different opinion on exhaust systems.
Greed4Speed 05-26-2005, 08:15 AM I voted other.
LM sound like glasspacks. A lot of people that get the LM end up changing it out becuase thy decide they don't like the sound.
Hooker is ok, just too quiet for me, and I don't like the tips.
Borla = overpriced
GMMG = WAY overpriced (I got my whole exhaust from headers back for about the same price)
I like the B&B, but its still just a 3" and isn't cheap either.
I'd say either true duals or Mufflex 3.5". Get away from all those cookie cutter single 3" systems. They're just .25" larger in diameter from stock. Let your LS1 flow!
mark896 05-26-2005, 05:15 PM I'm another for Loudmouth. I'm a die-hard SLP fan, but the system is cheap, easy to bolt on, and flows well. Sounds great too, in my opinion.
QuickSilver02 05-26-2005, 06:21 PM LM II if you arn't getting headers, Hooker if you are.
I agree. I love the sounds of my hookers, especially at wide open throttle on the track. :metal:
