cant keep the big block cool

im runing a grifen 3row radiator , 2 15" 1250cfm cooling fans and it wont stay cool in traffic. i can run 55mph on a 80* day and the car will stay 185 but whne i get in come 30mph trafic lights and stuff it shots up to 230 real quick.....

Make sure your fans are running first off, and then make sure they are pulling air from the front of the car through the radiator, not pushing air from the engine bay out. You know, I think the way stock fans are set up they kick on at around 230 anyway. If you are having problems with it heating up only at low speed/idle, then your problem is probably the fans.

What are you doing for a shroud?

the fans are working rite. i did not have a problem with the small block this big block has been nutin but a pain in the as$

what are u other big block guys runing for elec cooling fans

check your thermostat, maybe you should drill a couple holes in it so its constantly flowing some coolant through the system and maybe get some better fans. i have a fan by proform that makes a 2100 CFM fan that was around 60 bucks, it does an awesome job of keeping my motor cool, very consistent,

maybe put 1 on the engine side and 1 on the bumper side kindof offset so they have more surface area of the fans, like have one fan tucked all the way to the lower left corner and have the fan on the other side of the rad tucked all the way to the upper right corner. youl have some overlap in the middle and some dead spots in the opposite corners but most of the radiator will be covered and will have airflow

If your radiator works at highway speeds, but not at low speeds, then generally you have an airflow problem. That means your problem is most likely one of the following, in ascending order of likelyhood:
1) Poor airflow TO the radiator.
2) Not using a shroud, so the fans are not sucking air THROUGH the fins.
3) Your fans aren't powerful enough to get the job done. (Call BeCool and ask them what fan to use.)

use their twin 11" shrouded ones. Wire them to run all the time. Will keep it cool, or something is wrong with the motor. Trust me. Been there, and I tried everything just to keep my small block cool. With a be cool radiator and 16" unshrouded fan, would not cool. Switched to be cools twin 11's, and is perfect!

I should note that you wont neccesarily find the good fans, meaning the ones with the larger motors, in the Summit or Jegs catalog.

A friend of mine had a similar issue years ago with an 8-71 blown 454 in a Chevelle. He didn't fix it until he contacted BeCool directly, and ended up with a fan with a HUGE drive motor and stiff blades. It sounded like a jet engine when they kicked on and would flap the legs on your denim jeans standing by the driver's door, but they kept the water at 160 degrees, even in NYC traffic.

Ya, my BeCools are that bad. I had to put a switch in the engine compartment so I could turn the fans off to be able to hear the motor...

I'll tell you what... THERE'S your electric supercharger. :D

im gona try the dual 11s that are built in to the shroud that are in summit for 278$ i think thats my problem now that i dont have a shroud

When I replaced my 305 with a 383 I had the same problem. Tried a 3 row rad., dual fans (one push, one pull), high perf. water pump, and finally a five blade flex fan. Nothing worked untill I got a good fitting shroud. It now runs to cool so I'll probably have to go to a 185 thermostat.
