What port size is a '91 stock y-pipe? (Exhaust replacement ideas too!)

Hello all,

I see there's been a few questions lately regarding replacement cat's and that's exactly what I;ve been think about doing. But I'm wondering what is the factory y-pipe output port size for a '91 Z28? Is it 2.25"? I'm not sure.

I want to replace me exaust from y-pipe back and I'm looking for any suggestions. My car still has the original exaust system! It was kept out of the rain so it never rusted and had to be replaced (VERY uncommon in Michigan!)

My original plan was to go with a 3" Flowmast CAT-back kit and replace the CAT while I was at it. The Hi-Flow Cat that I was looking at on summit racing had 2.25" inlet and 3" outlet. Would this still work for th factory y-pipe?
(Dynatech DTC-79-400225 )

I appreciate any suggestion or ideas.

Thanks Jeff

not sure about size of your stock Y/pipe, but i have a 3'' y/pipe for a 86 that is set up for 3'' slip on CAT. if you want or need it, it is yours for dirt cheap!!!! as for a CAT, have you thought about knocking the guts out of it? the stock CAT will become, hy/flow!

As for gutting the CAT, I think I'd prefer to just replace it. It's pretty rusted up and I'm sure if I tried to empty it I'd tear it up past it's usable point.

So joejo you had an '86 F-body and the outlet y-pipe was 3"? Does everyone else have the same size? I'd really like to know before I make the commitment to buy a replacement CAT.
