Beginning with 2006 model year vehicles, arriving on the market in coming months, the powertrain on Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles will be covered by the 3-year or 36,000 mile warranty, as are all other parts.
Customers did not place much value on the extended warranty for the engine and transmission, so the company decided to use funds backing the offer and promoting it elsewhere, spokesman Kevin McCormick said.

The "7/70 powertrain" advertising slogan was a sad reminder of the Iaccoca era.
Now that Chrysler actually has decent products to offer, this sort of gimmick just isn't neccessary.

Hmmm, given similar products, my decision would hinge on the better warranty. While I was around in the Iaccoca days and remember them, I didn't naturally associate the two here and now.
The way I look at it, when you make better products a longer warranty is a no brainer ... 3yr/36K is not much anymore, more and more people are driving 15K plus a year, it also doesn't take into account that folks are financing all these $30K plus autos & trucks for 60 & 72 month terms. Even 48 month leases/smart buys are not uncommon with those kinds of MSRPs.

Chrysler has carved out a unique niche.

That was one of the reasons I bought the 98 Neon I had was the 7 year 75,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty I could put on it. I guess they don't want people to hang onto their products for more than 3 years....
