Help me put a cheap system together

A friend of mine was going to get one of those Bazooka tube things, but I told him he would be better off going with a smaller basic system, since the tubes I have heard sounded pretty lame.

Is there any amp/sub combo he could get for around $150-175? Just something decent, but preferably no crap brands or products.

I'm not sure if a 10" or 12" sub would be better.

That would be the best value for that kind of money. any cheaper than that and it will just sound like crap.

Someone posted a link to subthump.com. Excellent price on the stealth box ($112). Never seen it cheaper (and usally twice the price). Circuit City and Best Buy wanted close to $500 for the stealth box and sub.

I bought mine off someone from my local board ($100) and put a sony explode 10" ($85) with a Kicker amp and it sounds suprisingly good.

It's not going to win competitions or even rattle the windows in my house from the driveway, but that's not what I was going for either.
