1993z28camaro 05-08-2005, 10:40 PM I ran into a 96-97 SVT, white, 5sp. tonight. I think it was all stock. Well my friend and I followed him when we got stoped at a light. He reved and I did to. Then the light changed. He launched on it. He hooked prettygood and I didn't. He pulled probley a half a car in first and then when I hit second I caught him and as I was pulling third I was about half of a car in front and it just got worst. I was hopping to talk to him but he wouldn't stop and wouldn't look at me. I was happy to know that I payed half of what he did for his car and that mines faster.
thats nice
try the proper forum next time. should find it by reading the forum descriptions

good kill
Z95m6 05-08-2005, 11:54 PM Wrong forum, just hope that Cobra doesn't get any bolt ons. They really wake up.
Compstall 05-09-2005, 12:00 AM '96-'97 Cobra's were the weakest ones built in the 90's.
Injuneer 05-09-2005, 11:41 AM PLEASE post in the correct forum. Kill stories do not belong in Engine Tech.

What are you talking about? So I guess the 93 w/ 235 hp and the 94-95 w/ 240 hp were faster?...96-98 GTs were all 305 hp and all ran identical, generally higher 13's and the 99/01 Cars were slightly faster w/ 320 hp.

I don't know about weakest myself...but I would take a 93...94...95...any day of the week over a 96...97...but I like the 5.0s... :)
yellavette 05-09-2005, 02:50 PM Did you mean 96-98 Cobras? The GT's didn't have 305 hp.

Compstall 05-09-2005, 07:07 PM Ask around on any Mustang forum. A '93 would be much more preferrable over a '96 or '97. They respond to mods better.
Hell I even read an editor's article in MM&FF mag where he was trashing the '96 (they had one for a project car a while back).
Antz97ZNJ 05-09-2005, 08:22 PM Ask around on any Mustang forum. A '93 would be much more preferrable over a '96 or '97. They respond to mods better.I dont need to ask around....a dohc cobra is capable of 12's w/ gears and tires w/ a good driver. A 5.0 Cobra isnt touching that..Not sure what MM&FF you were reading because evan smith got his own 97 Cobra (which is the exact same car as a 96 to a 13.3 stock.)...The 93 is good for mid to possibly low 14. The DOHC and the 5.0 are two totally different engines w/ two completely different mod routes.. and saying the 5.0 responds to mods better is a bunch of bull....96-98 will crush a 93 mod for mod...not even close

JasonYea my bad I meant Cobra

Hehe, now you're getting into "mod motor is better than 5.0", or vice-versa. No one wins that one, not even on the Mustang forums.. :p
z28forlife 05-09-2005, 10:10 PM I would definently like a 5.0 rather than the 4.6, those 4.6's just dont seem to respond to mods uless you have a crap load of em. Or unless its the 99+ motors. ;)
CANTONRACER 05-09-2005, 11:33 PM Who really cares what people pay for cars? That would be like a guy buying a beater 5.0 and throws a 150 shot of n2o on it and beats you...are you going home in shame because he spent less that you and beat you?
If was about racing cars that as little money was spent...all we would see is Chevette's with 454's in them looking dog ugly....

No one wins that one, not even on the Mustang forums.. :p Obviuosly you have no clue about either engine so Ill end this discussion w/ this post...92 was the last year for the 5.0 w/ forged parts, so the 93 Cobra isnt gonna hold up to nearly as much boost as the previous years would have. 5.0 is old and parts are cheap for them...ofcourse you can build one up cheaper. Cobra has a 70 hp differance right out the gate. Any of you who say dohc cars dont respond well to mods are kidding yourselfs(you might be mixing thats up w/ the sohc), go ask Mikie(member here) what his Mach 1 is running w/ very minimal mods  ...Id love to see some proof on how a 93 Cobra responds better to mods then a dohc cobra...and Ill show you several that run have run 12's w/ gears and tires..think you guys have seen some bad cobra drivers (which is common) and you've made the wrong impression on the engine.

I don't remember them ever bashing the 96 that Camppy had. Also the 96 has far more potential as the engine can handle quite a bit more HP than the 5.0 engine can. The 96-98 Italian blocks are also favored by drag racers because they are stronger than the other aluminum blocks from other years.

Yep, I have no clue. I've never retained any information I ever read nearly every day on Stangnet.com or from reading MM&FF cover to cover (I do have 3 years worth of a stack in the garage).
I don't blame things on "bad drivers". I don't blame what I run on "slipping clutch", "spinning tires", "crappy weather", insert whatever you've ever seen people say when they post their e.t.'s. For some reason, a lot of people can't just say what they run without a grocery list of excuses. In my book, you run what you run, period.
I'll still take a '93 5 liter over any modular. :p :)
94sinister 05-10-2005, 07:43 PM Round here ANY year 5.0's run 15's bone stock. An 05 GT with at least a cat-back was running 14.3-14.5. Hell even a Lightning was running 14.6 while I've read people saying they run high 13's stock. An 01 SS was barely breaking 13.8....those times you guys say for 96-97 Cobra's must be at some very fast tracks cause it's definently not happening here.
BirchMan98z 05-11-2005, 02:06 AM Had a 97 cobra with a host of bolt-ons hang right with me up to VERY high speeds on a safe back road 6 mile stretch...with the setup in my sig. Only had him by 1/2 a car, and he actually pulled ME from 80-110 starting from a 60 roll.
Stock the Cobras are nothing to write home about, mod them up right and you'll be in some serious trouble.
