Putting a new tranny in my buddies 95' TA. After we got the new one in we found out the rear sensor is a completely different type as the original and I can't see a way to just get it to work. Can the tailshaft from the old tranny be swapped onto the new one with any ease and is there any part associated with it that would harm the new one since the old one croaked? Or would it be easier to cut the sensor off and just splice the correct one back onto the wires? I'll assume they do the same thing but are shaped different for different years. Someone please shed some light and correct me on this. Thanks in advance.

Yes, the TAILHOUSING can be swapped. This tells me that you're installing a different year transmission, though. The '93 F-Body still used a 700R4, not a 4L60E. '94 was a "stand alone" year. '95-'97 are interchangeable. '98-'02 are interchangeable...As long as the correct color PWM solenoid is used.

Can you elaborate a little more about the solenoid please? I am 100% certain it's not a 700R4 and I've heard the 94's were a little different so I assume it's a 94'. I just want to make sure doing the swap won't change or hurt anything in any way. Also to go back to a previous question would it be easier or smarter to swap the harness or swap the tailshaft? Thanks again.

Just so you know if you are trying to put a 94 tranny into a 95 it won't work...

Does anyone else have any more info on this. I need to figure out how to get the car to work. We got busy for awhile and haven't touched the car yet. I don't want to get it back on the ground just to find out it won't move. How to I rectify this problem? Thanks in advance.

the wiring for 94-95 are different, the 94 has an on-off tcc solenoid, the 95 and newer use pwm (pulse width modulated) signal to run the tcc apply
the program in the pcm is also different to run the different trans
so to swap 94-95 trans with each other you would have to re-wire the trans and re-program the pcm with the other year program file
if the trans is a 94 you will need to re wire the plug at the trans and run a program for a 94 auto tran car
will the car move if you leave it the way it is?=yes it will move but it will burn up the trans

Thankyou very much for the info. What all is included to rewire the trans? Is this something I can "steal" from the original trans and just swap over? Also to run the program for a 94' all I'd have to do is find someone with LT1 edit and use a laptop or would I need to send it off to a mail order company or something and have them do it? Thanks again, I've never messed with this problem before.
