Speed2Much vs CANTONRACER

I had to post this cuz it was probably one of the funnest, closest races i think i have ever had :D

me and all my buddies went down to dragway 42 last night, it was a blast. DarkHorse brought his Z28 (which was running 12.4's :thumb: ) Bersaglieri brought his Z (13.7's all night long!) And Canton brought his Lightning (he was just ripping off 12.7's 12.8's).

So I was in the staging lanes and look over and see Canton's lightning and count the cars and see we are going to line up! I have been running 13.00's with 2.2-2.4 60ft times. My 60's were just killing me (little street tires and car is lowered) my pass before i finally hit a 2.0 60ft, i have never tried so hard to get a feel for it so it wouldnt spin and hit about a 12.7) Well I was thinking about the ride up to 42 and we were just messing around on the express way and from about a 60 roll I think i only pulled a nose clip on Canton's lightning!

So we line up.. The lights drop (he gets a little better reaction and gets out first). He is ahead by at least 1-2 cars. I was trying really hard to get out and hook up, I had a little tire spin but i was feeling it catch. It turned out to be one of my better launches yet. I'm starting to catch up, we are half way down the track and i have about a car length to still pull, we are about to cross the traps and we are DEAD even, I couldnt tell who won. I seen both red lights light up the same time. I pulled around and grabbed my slip. It was the best time for me of the night and here is what our slip looked like:

Speed2Much / CantonRacer

Reaction: .1819 / .1002
60ft 2.0860 / 1.9788
330ft 5.5299 / 5.4168
1/8MI ET 8.3479 / 8.2807
1/8MPH 87.09 / 85.25
1000' ET 10.7322 / 10.7256
1/4 ET 12.7810 / 12.8408
1/4MPH 112.22 / 108.46

Loser :dead: / Winner :thumb:

But this was my best time slip yet! So its going on the fridge! Even though i edged Canton out by less than a tenth he got me in reaction time and took the win :D :D Even though i lost it has to be one of my favorite races ever. So hopefully in the next month I will have my relocation brackets and some Mickey Thompson ET streets to get my 60 down a little and i will have my times to post. Plus hopefully with a sweet tune i can get my MPH up there closer to 115 or so, thats my goal!

That was a great run, I was over by the Control Building when you raced. I was rooting for the underdog Z since I knew the Lightning had ran 12.5's before. It was real close right to the finish. You finally perfected your launches, which I just couldnt nail last night. It was odd how I can hook up better on the street than I can at the track. Oh I was running 13.6's at 104mph! :p even though my 60's were 2.2-2.3 everytime. Once I ficx my 60's I think 13.3 or lower will be were I am at. Maybe you should get a second set of drag radials and helmet, um so, you have, err a extra set... ;)

Truely thats the most fun I've had in a long time hanging out with F-body guys. Even my g/f enjoyed it. Although, the truck stop food caused me, um, "problems" when I got home  Definately a very cool group of cars, too bad Waswa's car was bombed, or he'd be out there too. I can only wonder how you would have ran against him from a roll.

Your car is sweet man, pulling on both the Lightning and the Darkhorse Z from a roll. I now I have new goal of a LE2 package. Thing is it seemed to drive so nicely, I definately want a ride/drive to see how it is.

BTW I still think you have a 3000 stall it's just stalling differently because of your other mods.

A few more grip mods on your car and I think your set for high nice low 12's high 11's.

I thought I was going to have a highway run with your buddy in the Bird on the way home, but it never happened. He was following my pretty close on 76 :D

Yeah was fun times all night - I think I rolled in around 3am-3:15am :p

I was all over the place in et and mph from 12.40's to 12.90's from 112 to 108 pretty weird. Wondering if all of the back to back runs had anything to do with the mph?? 6 minutes between most of my timeslips.

I let Waswa have my car for about 6 runs or so - he was doing pretty damn good with it. I think he was averaging better than I was with the car. He was running mostly 12.5's with it - and told me he was launching full throttle off idle. I had better 60's than him but he was running about 3 tenths faster than me??? Weird - but i'm going to try his method next time out.

Man, all you local guys are havin all the fun, and i feel left out. Seriously though, when i get my car out of the body shop I'd like to roll out with you guys. Have a couple beers, a couple races, and let the good times roll. Catch you all later.

Sounds great Zmaster, let me know sometime, I'm just a drive down 422.

Hey Aaron, tell Waswa thanks a ton for spraying oil or whatever all over my car when I raced him :D I thought it was just on my windshield but its all over the hood and everything! Get that fixed man, it must be leaking like crazy. When I was following you there I thought I got a rain sprinkle on the windshield but I guess it was just a little bit of the oil flying off.

Yea towards then end we were almost running back to back runs, with only 3-5 cars in line.

Yea, I got back pretty late too, I had a bit longer drive to get home, but I will tell you this, it was well worth the long drive. I finally have a great group of F-body guys to hand with. I am going to have to start making trips to Akron more often!

Glad i wasnt the only on with "problems" after i got back  :D

You would of pulled my buddy's TA really bad, thats just the way he drives, i kept lookin in my mirror and i couldnt even see the road he was so close to me the whole time, lol.

What a fun night, we need to do that again here really soon :D

I dont think I went to bed till about after 4.a.m. hehe

Eeer the more f-body's the better!! Could of read that as more beers the better but that might be bad with cars trapping 110MPH :D

hmmm Can I quote my own quote like this?

when i was running my 12.7's i let my car sit for at least 15minutes with an icebag on the intake/TB/elbow... Seem to work a little better for me?

Had a great time with the local guys...even in my Ford :) "though I often talk with Darkhorse about how a Fox-body would run with a powerplant in my 4700 lb truck...a 3.08 gear....thing would be interesting :D "

Alot of potential in the group of cars last night...

That might be the last time I race the truck this year...going to be converting it towing duty for my soon to be running F-body..just in case

And remember...I was nice on that last run...I normally red light my buds really bad ;)

Aaron and Waswa warned me about that one at the track, you sneaky devil.

So whats the car going to run? Or supposed to run? You going to give that 383 S/C LS1 Firebird a run for his money?

-Dustin-

DarkHorse
05-08-2005, 09:59 PM
That LS1 S/C car was running 11.20's pretty consistent with a best of 11.16. Guy said he was looking for 10's - and since CANTON wants 10.5's or so - would be a good run with Jason edging him out when his car is running properly.

Jason is all motor too right? LS what? hehe :D But I guess his wont be driving to the track though. Anyways seeing a LT1 going 10's will be sweet.

When is the next time you guys are racing?

Well at least if you break your 10 second camaro you can race your truck and still beat everyone before using it to tow your car back home :D

And just be watchin out cuz I am going to get you to redlight one of these times :D

Maybe next friday for me... dunno about Wednesday yet. I want to run points but I am saving a little for those MT ET Streets ;)

I heard the guy had a stroker LS1 with a Vortech & spraying the car...and running those times he did... Maybe if the car was not so darn ugly I might have investigated :D

But he did drive it out to the track and did cut low 11's in the trim he drove it to the track, so I give it credit...

As for running that car...who knows, my new setup might be a turd...but a big inch stroker, lotsa compressoin, radical big(to most)solid roller setup, killer AFR heads, etc..running a TH400 with a 5000 rpm t-brake might run decent :D

WOW, sounds like you guys had a great night. Lou Im glad your car is still running strong. I see you ran a 12.7...thats pretty good. Just get that 60 ft down and your good. You and your buds should come up to the shop saturday for the grand opening. We got a dynojet dyno for all the needs. Well talk to ya later , let me know if you need something else done to your car. After the grand opening we can get your car in for the tune, that we have been planing for. Joel

I didnt hear him tell everyone about the spray. He must have left that out when I over heard him.

Very true, what was that color scheme? Red with checkered flag down the side with a bottom border of lime green...definately not my tastes, I think he just needs a wing from a A-10 and he'll be set.

Perhaps I'll make the trip Friday if you go Lou. Keep me updated.

I am going to try to be there nice and early for some GMR Speed dyno time.

It would also be cool to run somewhere were the da isnt above 6000 most of the time.

Speed2Much... what else do you have done to your car. Your sig only says a flowmaster exhaust. A 1998 Z28 A4 can't go 12.7 @ 112 with just a flowmaster exhaust.

The race in question was in the '97 that is also in his sig. :)

Gone but not forgotten: 1997 Camaro Z28 LE2 H/C FULL BOLTON: Best time: 60ft 2.08, 1/4 12.6, MPH 113

An LT1 LE2 car with full bolt-ons can most certainly run those times. :)

I talk to Speed2Much almost daily. I revived the post in an attempt to get him in here and posting again.

Yes those times were ran with the LT1. It needed a good tune and some tires more than anything. Also this car was factory weight, pretty sure it even had the spare/jack. Operation "Reboot" is currently underway to reconstruct the car since he sold it.

haha, yes it can! It had a bunch of stickers and weight reduction too ;)

nah, it was my old 97 LT1 with the LE2 combo. I swear with a tune and tires it could of hit high 11's. maybe one day I will still see :D

I guess its time to dust off this name. lol, I was running with the spare and jack for awhile ;) Operation reboot huh? I need to start operation get a better job so I can get another z to work on and a place to put it other than the ghetto :)

PS - I think you are going to like your new 95 6 speed so much I see you putting your heads and cam and everything from your red one into it
