Hey guys,
I have a 97 Z28, 6-speed. I was wondering if you can power shift a hydraulic clutch, since they are a little slower than the cable clutch.

Also de we have a rev limiter or do I need an MSD?

how are they slower?

I have heard people even long term racers a hydo clutch take a bit longer to engage/disengage becasue it relies on the preasure. I was also told you can not slip the clutch in a hydo clutch.

every time you shift you are slipping the clutch to some extent.

and everyone i know who races a 4th gen manual camaro power shifts.

nothing slow about it to me. hydrolic presure is faster than human response probably...so i doubt it would make that much difference

To answer your question yes you can power shift a hydraulic clutch. Alot of people do it. :)

Is power shifting the same as rev matching?

Well the meaning may have changed, but it used to be pulling the gear without lifting(or very little lifting) of the throttle.

Yea, you hold the gas to the floor the whole time while stabing the clutch and shifting to the next gear, rev matching is probably refering to when downshifting or shifting with out the clutch which isn't really possible while powershifting.

Cool, I will try it this weekend. So how effective is the rev limiter?

My siggestion to you would be to set the rev limitor at least 500 rom before you actualy want to shift. I have mine set for 6700 even though I dont plan on shifting until 6300. One of those just in case things. :)

How did you set the rev limiter????????????

You do it through reprogramming the computer.

Ahh how dou you plan on shifting 500 r's after the rev limiter?? That dosen't make any sense.

He meant 500 RPM after your planned shift point. When you're shifting with your foot on the gas pedal all the time, the revs will quickly go up once you take the foot off the clutch for a shift, which is why you need that extra room. I'd rather take the foot off the gas pedal a little bit, but that's just me.

So what is the stock rev limiter set at???

And is it effective???????????

Yea, that makes sense... i think the stock rev limit is 5850 or so but i have seen logs of about 6100 hiting the limiter. Takes a split second to slow the momentum of the motor.
