Does anyone know if you can take any kind of wheel and strip it to the bare metal and then polish it? My wheels are black right now but I want them to be polished. Thanks.

Of course you can. Just remember there's no free lunch to polishing.

It's lots of work, from what I've read... and you'll spend a lot of your free time polishing them to maintain their appearance unless you get them clearcoated. They do look nice, though.

How exactly would I go about polishing my wheels? Wouild I just take off all the the layers of paint and then sand them and then take some sort of compound and polish them out?

That's pretty much the gist of it, but it takes LOTS of time. I'm not sure if I even have the patience for a full set of wheels..

I try to keep my projects to smaller parts that only take 3-6 hours.

I started to do it...when I got down to the bare metal I didn't even want to spend another 20+hours polishing so I repainted...just go buy polished wheels and save ALOT of trouble.

The stock painted 10 spokes from the SS have a machined surface. Strip the paint and there it is. Repaint the non machined surfaces and you have a set of 35th anv wheels.

I polished my firehawk wheels last winter.....took me a solid 12 hours per wheel. Alot of work but well worth it. I can send ya pics if you wanna see the difference.
