Does anyone know if you can take any kind of wheel and strip it to the bare metal and then polish it? My wheels are black right now but I want them to be polished. Thanks.

Dave '97 Z28 M6 05-09-2005, 12:30 AM It's lots of work, from what I've read... and you'll spend a lot of your free time polishing them to maintain their appearance unless you get them clearcoated. They do look nice, though. Compstall 05-09-2005, 08:44 PM I polish parts n' things on the side. I know alllllllllllll about it... ;) :) z28forlife 05-14-2005, 12:36 AM I polish parts n' things on the side. I know alllllllllllll about it... ;) :) How exactly would I go about polishing my wheels? Wouild I just take off all the the layers of paint and then sand them and then take some sort of compound and polish them out? Compstall 05-14-2005, 01:51 AM That's pretty much the gist of it, but it takes LOTS of time. I'm not sure if I even have the patience for a full set of wheels.. I try to keep my projects to smaller parts that only take 3-6 hours. Dave '97 Z28 M6 05-14-2005, 02:24 PM Check out this thread (http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=312442) Kataklysm 05-15-2005, 08:41 AM I started to do it...when I got down to the bare metal I didn't even want to spend another 20+hours polishing so I repainted...just go buy polished wheels and save ALOT of trouble. 87z-28man 05-15-2005, 10:24 AM heres a thread from thridgen.org that i was reading last night about polishing wheels, very helpful. Strip the paint and there it is. Repaint the non machined surfaces and you have a set of 35th anv wheels. Hawk350 05-26-2005, 08:51 AM I polished my firehawk wheels last winter.....took me a solid 12 hours per wheel. Alot of work but well worth it. I can send ya pics if you wanna see the difference. | ||
