Widest tire I can fit on a '00 SS wheel

What is the widest tire i can fit on a SS wheel. 17X9 i believe. Right now i have 275. Can i go wider?

Go onto tirerack.com or a similar website, and check to see what the recommended maximum wheel width for any given tire is. There are people who have put 315s on their 9" wide wheels (very unsafe, by the way), so the manufacturer's recommandation would be your safest bet. Good luck.

275 seems to be the largest you can safely go.

Most tire manufacturers recommend a 9.5" wheel width for a 285/40-17, but Pirelli will accept 9.0" with that tire size in their PZero line. I don't think you would get into all that much trouble with the 285/40-17 from any manufacturer on a 9" wide wheel. But if you look at the details of section width and tread width, many times you aren't really gaining anything with the 285 over the 275. The one thing that does happen is it throws the speedometer off slightly (less than 1mph at 60mph).

I had 285 on my wheels fit fine.
