Camaro ChriSS 05-03-2005, 02:06 PM Has anyone been to Mission yet and 'tested' or inquired about the new NHRA rules?
In particular, running 11.50-11.99 and not requiring a rollcage. I'm just curious if they are applying that now, and HOW they are applying it - that is, how will a modded f-body running high 11's be received. Instant kick-off? I think the rule technicially only applies to stock cars in that ET range, such as Vipers and such, but it depends how strict they want to be.
JD30thZ28 05-03-2005, 03:07 PM I will let you know in a few weeks :p
Camaro ChriSS 05-03-2005, 03:26 PM Oh? Interesting...
Lol! I may have to beat you TO the track. ;)
John1975 05-03-2005, 03:40 PM If your car is on "the list"..............you can. At least I was told I can run that without cage. But if I keep getting beat by damn shaggin wagons (GERRY), I won't be in the 11s anyway.
JD30thZ28 05-03-2005, 03:41 PM May.20th test and tune, let's all go :)
Camaro ChriSS 05-03-2005, 06:38 PM 20th might be a good idea.

One thing not listed is that ALL motorcycles need a lanyard to kill the ignition of a bike if the rider becomes disconnected from the bike. (NHRA says 120mph+ requires lanyard)

Those are the old rules
John1975 05-03-2005, 10:05 PM yep
certain cars can run 11.5 without a cage and who knows what else
Tw!tchb!tch 05-03-2005, 11:45 PM Im in for Test and Tune , Ryan will probably bring the TA too. When can we call up and reserve a spot ??
Drumhawk 05-04-2005, 12:12 AM High 11's kick ass Chris, go get em.
Camaro ChriSS 05-04-2005, 11:44 AM :)
As Erik pointed out, that's the rules on MRP's site, and although I know they go by NHRA, some of those old timers ;) there do NOT react to change very well. I notice that MRP has updated their web site, but I found it strange that they didn'y update their track rules at the same time, to be current. Which makes me wonder how they'll respond to the new rules, and interpret them. Of course, probably a seperate person does the web site from the person doing the info updates...
But, I am NOT going to call and find out. That will probably just open up a can of worms. Let sleeping dogs lie for now. I'll wait to see what happens.
It's very likely that you could get away with a car that meets the new rules, even if MRP would prefer that you meet their rules. You'll probably get away with it a few times, but they won't let you get away with it all year.
Draco 05-04-2005, 01:19 PM You cannot run engine mods or power adders and still qualify for the 11.50 rule. You are only allowed intake/exhaust/bolt-on changes. Dont discuss your heads and cam if they ask ;)

That doesn't make any sense... What difference does it make what is done to the car? When the 11.99 was in effect it didn't matter.
JD30thZ28 05-04-2005, 04:04 PM I think only changed those rules because some factory cars go 11's without any or very minimal modification, so not letting them run in a stock car kind of left them in a tight spot because then well they can only race on the street....because if I spent $100,000 on a viper or Z06 and put some dr's on it and ran 11's i wouldn't want to put a cage in it.
Camaro ChriSS 05-04-2005, 08:49 PM Well, I am assuming I shouldn't have much in the way of problems at the track. My set up is basically pretty simple and mundane.

you can if it is a stock power adder :P
Draco 05-05-2005, 01:27 PM yeah the rule was to accomodate stock and near stock cars (especially convertibles), so engine mods are not allowed. Stupid but true. As long as your cam doesnt sound lumpy you should be fine. maybe tune your idle a bit higher if you are worried about that.
JD30thZ28 05-05-2005, 03:49 PM you can if it is a stock power adder :P
But John you barely hit 12's, leave the 11's to the real cars :p
John1975 05-05-2005, 09:18 PM yah, sucks to add a cai and tune and still only get a 12.74 on street tires
JD30thZ28 05-06-2005, 01:51 PM Yes....Mustangs Suck :p
Drumhawk 05-06-2005, 07:27 PM Chris are you running at Mission tonight?
