Oh yea. I here ya. When my T/A is payed off I'll probally pick one up for my winter car. I need a front wheel drive or AWD for these New England winters. But I would'nt talk S*** because they are a low 14 or very high 13 second car.Which is very respectable but nothing to get too exicted about. There were F bodies running that fast 12 years ago. Of course kids are driving them; they're a cheap fast car that even a grocery bagger can afford. I don't know why there's all the hate for that car. It's not an import, so there goes thet easiest generic complaint. It's a pretty quick car that's also really cheap, and it's got a strong factory-supported mod list to go even quicker and the engine is extremely overbuilt. It's a $22k econobox that happens to haul ass. So it's FWD - big deal. It loses a few tenths in the beginning in the name of cheaper production. Do I want one? Nope. Not enough "car" for me. I guess I'm too old for their target demographic (I'd take a Chrysler 300 SRT8 in a heartbeat). However, when these same kids are willing to throw away $25k+ on a "fast" Civic Si, the SRT4 makes a lot more compelling argument. Antz97ZNJ 05-03-2005, 09:35 AM Not enough "car" for me. Not sure what ya meant by that? A legacy looks pretty much the same size and are around the same speed stock, what did ya mean? I think the reason there is so much hate towards theses car is'nt the car itself. Its nice to see a american car co. building cars that can compete with the japs at there own game. it seems it's the SRT-4 owners are the reason. Everyone seems to agree that most of them are very young. So that means most of them are'nt that expereinced in the car world and because its most likely the fastest car they've ever driven they automaticly think they're 14.0 second car is the fastest car on the road because they beat all of they're buddies fart piped hondas and such badly. For some reason they dont realize that LS1's are quicker stock for stock untill they meet up with one and then they're surprised. Antz97ZNJ 05-03-2005, 11:05 AM I think the reason there is so much hate towards theses car is'nt the car itself. Actually i think its (bitter diehard v8 guys) LT1, stang guys, and some LS1 guys getting there ass's kicked by them :D ..Stage 2 and 3 kicks ass on these cars...and there nasty from a roll Kris93/95Z28 05-03-2005, 11:19 AM Actually i think its (bitter diehard v8 guys) LT1, stang guys, and some LS1 guys getting there ass's kicked by them :D ..Stage 2 and 3 kicks ass on these cars...and there nasty from a roll Actually for me its the attitude I have gotten from the owners. For instance their was a local guy that had one that had in gigantic letters on his rear bumper, "God made turbo lag to give V8s a chance." He was running high 12s with nitrous and other bolt ons (Obviously he could hold his own), but come on, that isn't enough in my book to talk sh!t on that whole market. CANTONRACER 05-03-2005, 11:51 AM Most guys that have SRT-4's really don't know much about racing in general. They are quick little cars and they simply cannot imagine something else utterly destroying what they consider "fast". But what pisses me off is when you do find them at the track and they still talk smack...like "I was pulling you down hard"..yeap, that 14.1@98 mph was pulling down my 12.8@108 mph....and when you ask them how fast they were going @ 12.8 seconds...they have no concept... Hmm...add your 1 second reaction time to the ET difference...do a little math = I being about a football field ahead = pulling me down HARD. :D Heck, the other day @ Sam's Club, young guy pulls in with a SRT-4, talk to him, bs a little, told him I have raced a few SRT-4's before...he asked how they races went...told him I beat them pretty good them...HIS answer...must have been the drivers...YEAH YOU TOOL, JOHN FORCE IS NOT GOING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!... And the guy who tunes it said it has alot more in the tune and as soon as i get a 'chute he'll tune it to make the power to break 150mph. He just said let me know when you want to go 150 and I'll tune it up. here some pics of it on cardomain http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=762099 Antz97ZNJ 05-03-2005, 03:23 PM Actually for me its the attitude I have gotten from the owners. When the srt came out most v8 guys were like " Its still a neon" ...It just happens to be one quick one stock and one fast one w/ a few reasonably priced mods..Happen to think its a pretty sharp looking car to boot. It'll runs w/ /GT's/LT1's and w/ a few mods LS1's/ and pre 03 Cobras...Id buy a 96-03 Cobra, LS1, LT1, and maybe even a GT before I bought an srt, but thats still not taking away from them Bersaglieri 05-03-2005, 03:43 PM I'd have no problem with the SRT-4 if it wasnt for every, I repeat, every owner I have ever spoke to talks out his rear like he's at the top of the food chain. If the owner came over and talked like lots of the Stang guys I know, with respect knowing that either car could possbily smoke the other, no big deal. Like it was said above, all of the owners think they drive the Superman of performance automobiles, and with some extra boost, they will kill anyone. Case in point the kid who lives in my area, knows so much about cars that when he had a Z24 he swore it had a S/C, and pointed to the Altenator as being it. He then buys a SRT-4, mods it a bit and talks crap about everyones car in town. Everytime I see him in town, he flies up on your bumper, rides you through town, rev's and burns out at stoplights and calls you out when he gets beside you. Saying he's beat every car out to date, LS1 Vettes, Z/28's, Cobras, Lightnings, and that they are all slow POS's, including my buddies AWD TSI Talon which I have to say would be a handful for alot of cars from a dig. Problem is he never raced my buddy, but says he beat him. So even though I have terribly bald tires, I call him out on the spot. Suddenly he doesnt want to race and starts asking what I have done. He insists I must have H/C to think I could run with him, and all I said was that I have a few bolt ons. Supposedly he's turned up his boost with a bunch of other mods I cant remember. I took him out to a secluded road and whats he do to win 2/3 races? Cheats and goes on the 2nd horn instead of the 3rd, but insists that its the 3rd horn, even though I was the one honking. Another showing of the SRT-4 owners integrity. The 3rd race I yell ready, set, go, and this time I pull on him from a roll like crazy, we left at exactly the same time, not such a tough guy when you dont cheat. He then insists he didnt know we were racing that time. Anyways moral of the story is I respect cars that are quick from the factory, another one like the SRT-4 is the SS Cobalt running similar times to a LT1 stock with a S/C. But what I dont respect is the reputation of the owners, which leads me to dislike the car more and more with each one I meet. Just about every Stang I have ever raced has shared a mutualy respect with me that both of us have potental to win. But what I didnt say was I have a Z/28 and I'll toast your slow POS, like what I head from SRT-4 guys. I'll probally get a red or blue one and put a regular rear spoiler on it. But that will be in 2 years when I finish paying for my T/A though. Bersaglieri 05-03-2005, 04:20 PM You dont have to when you have a Stang like yours :D Sorry about the rant, but its not the car its 95% the owner's attitude. -Dustin- John M 05-03-2005, 04:25 PM Not sure what ya meant by that? A legacy looks pretty much the same size and are around the same speed stock, what did ya mean? I mean a nicer ride in general. I've got cushy leather, a perfectly quiet interior even at WOT, not to mention all 4 of my windows are power (SRT = front 2 power, rear manual). The AWD was just icing on the cake. In return for all these goodies I paid $9k over the SRT4's cost. If I was willing to take a base turbo Legacy, it'd been more like $24-25k which is a much closer price. Idiots drive all kinds of cars. There's only one SRT4 in town that I've seen and they haven't shown any interest in running. I went to the 1/8th mile last Thursday to test my latest mods. I was instantly approached by a guy with a new Civic Si. "Hey, you wanna run?", obviously assuming I was a total newb. Playing along, I said "Sure!" He high-fived his friends and they all laughed like they were all in on a joke I hadn't heard. Long story short, I bet it's pretty disappointing to lose by 2 full seconds in just the 1/8th. It looked like about half the track in my rear view. I didn't hear from them after that. '88Saleen 05-03-2005, 05:35 PM You dont have to when you have a Stang like yours :D Sorry about the rant, but its not the car its 95% the owner's attitude. -Dustin- I know what you mean. I try not to talk to much s*** even though I have a 9 sec car. But sometimes when dealing with ignorant people sometimes I let my emotions get to me too.Pulling out a 9 sec timeslip shuts alot of people up. But if someone comes up to me and is cool and has respect for cars other than there own make I can talk to them for hours.I sometimes get home from cruise nights at 11 -12 o'clock even though 99% of the people left 2 hours before. My GF would be like where were you all this time? I'd be like I got talking to this guy and time flew bye. Bersaglieri 05-03-2005, 05:48 PM Exactly, and thats how it should be. It just seems like the majority of SRT-4 owners have a problem with American V8's no matter who you are. Granted they may have had some bad dealing with another V8, but out of the few I have met they just are too much for me to handle, I cant stand and talk to those guys no matter how much I try. -Dustin- Kris93/95Z28 05-03-2005, 08:23 PM Think your missing the point. When the srt came out most v8 guys were like " Its still a neon" ...It just happens to be one quick one stock and one fast one w/ a few reasonably priced mods..Happen to think its a pretty sharp looking car to boot. It'll runs w/ /GT's/LT1's and w/ a few mods LS1's/ and pre 03 Cobras...Id buy a 96-03 Cobra, LS1, LT1, and maybe even a GT before I bought an srt, but thats still not taking away from them I no doubt respect the car, and what it can do, make no mistake. ;) What I don't respect, is a 16 year old Vin Diesel telling me how he owns all domestics, and seems to only be able to cut low 14s. If you car is fast, cool, be proud, but please, don't be an ass about it. That is for ANYONE, whether they drive a SRT-4, WRX, LS1, LT1, Cobra, Gran National,... etc... The SRT-4 as a compact performance car goes, I have no issues, just the morons behind the steering wheels. Antz97ZNJ 05-03-2005, 09:35 PM I mean a nicer ride in general. I've got cushy leather, a perfectly quiet interior even at WOT, not to mention all 4 of my windows are power (SRT = front 2 power, rear manual). The AWD was just icing on the cake Got ya, its a good lookin car and faster then the wrx to boot, Id probably do the same as you in choosing one over the srt-4...For some reason the fwd just doesnt do it for me. What im wondering is why is that thing still stock :D Id atleast have a catback and cai on by now :) . You still hurting from the stealth ticket? John M 05-04-2005, 12:03 AM Ahh, but it isn't completely stock -- I've opened up the intake box, tossed in a K&N panel filter originally meant to fit the Stealth's stock airbox, and I've got a MBC at 17 psi (stock is 13.5). It can't hold boost for squat though, falling back to 13 psi after 5k rpm. What's funny is I'm considered a rebel in the Subaru tuning community. I refuse to buy staged mods and I'm not afraid of a MBC without also getting a $1k ECU tune. I bought a datalogger and I'm happy to be running the same timeslips as people who have spent $1500+ (I'm at maybe $50 spent). Of course there have been dire predictions that I'd blow my engine but 5k miles later it's still perfect. The biggest shortcoming is the tiny stock turbo. They chose the smallest one that would hold stock boost to redline, and then they lowered the redline to 6500 rpm. The longblock is identical to the STi (same part number and everything) so it can do 7k+ rpm and will easily make 100+ more hp as soon as you get a bigger turbo. They slowed the upgrade path by using a different intake manifold and intercooler than the STi does, meaning now all the companies have to make another variation of each part and it's taking them a while to get it all to market. I'm going to pick & choose what mods I want and hopefully I can build a 100% reliable daily driver that runs 11s and at least 118-120 traps, and look damn near shock while doing it. Oh, and do it for under $5k including labor for the PITA things like a clutch install. A year ago you never would have conviced me I'd buy a Subaru, much less a brand new one off the lot, and that it wouldn't be an STi. I love the potential though -- it's only half a liter less than the Stealth and it's 400 lbs lighter so it should still be a great ride when the mods are done. Mod funds are low right now because I'm in the middle of a $2k carputer setup. It's a full WinXP machine w/ touchscreen that I'm flushing into the dash. When I'm done it'll look like stock NAV (not offered on the Legacy) except it'll also do wireless web, email, play movies, etc. It's full 5.1 surround with 1700 watts rms of JBL amps powering JBL GTi components and a PowerAcoustik MOFO 12 sub (laugh, I know, but it's a massive sub, handles 1200w rms, and if I don't like it I only spent $150 on it). I was able to "resolve" the Stealth issue and I'm trying to make sure I never repeat it. It helps alot that this car blends into traffic so well :D Antz97ZNJ 05-04-2005, 12:09 AM well thats good to hear, yea I saw a new legacy today, they blend in very well...not flashy at all | ||
