Rear Sway Bar

Is there a need for a bigger rear bar? I hear about people having traction issues when they put on a bigger rear bar. What do you think?

It depends on the use of your car.

For drag racing, yes.

For autocross or road racing, depends on your car setup. Spring and shock setup, the type of course (tight, open, etc) will dictate what size rear bar your need.

I use a 21mm rear bar on my autocross/street car. But I also use 125 lb springs in the rear which allows me to get away with a larger bar. When I change my springs to 150 lbs, I'll probably try the stock 19mm bar at that point. I don't know anyone that autocrosses or road races with anything larger than a 21mm though. Just remember, the larger the rear bar, the less power you can use to exit corners with.

Why even have one if that is true?

Because without one, you'll most likely end up with massive understeer. The rear bar helps to transfer cornering forces from the front to the rear of the car. Yes, there is a trade off but going faster around corners is one advantage to the rear bar (vs none at all). It's only when your rear bar gets TOO large, you start having problems.

So what would you suggest with:

DS safety loop
BMR 32mm front sway bar
BMR PHB

Sam Strano advised me to go with either a 32/19 combo or a 35/21 combo.

You can also look into using your 19mm stock bar with Unbalanced Engineerings adj. sway bar setup.. It allows you to fine tune the rear bar stiffness.. Basically it will make a 19mm bar feel like a 19mm bar or a 20mm or 21mm and so on Check it out.. I would say that it would max stiffness out around the equivilant to a 23mm bar...

I have the 35mm/21mm combo with stock springs, Bilstein HD shocks, and it's just the way I like it.
