Just go out spend a little more cash and hone your driving skills.

I guess your right a hideous LS1 GTO should have its hands full, but a LS2 would be smoked also. FWIW - I have video of an 03 Cobra with a CAI, Blower Pulley and a 50 shot running a Fourteen something, at some ridiculously high MPH. Not that all people are this terrible behind the wheel, but sh!t happens. Not all of us are able to drive like John Force.

This is not true. Once again, if someone missed a gear, or blew the tires off, or just had a bad run all together a slower car can win. I am not trying to say all "My F-Body owned a "X" fill in car that should win threads are real, but like stated before, I have seen 03 ~ 04 Cobras in the mid 11s, and I have seen them in the 14s. You can't tell me the faster car has a divine right to win, only because it should on paper. Eliminate the human factor, and I will agree... Throw a human into the equation and things that shouldn't happen, can happen. With that said, all things semi equal, the Mustang will undoubtably have the edge. I will reiterate, I do think some people are posting BS, but some are taking alot of crap for something that happened pretty much the way they described it.

Ive said it before and ill say it again...if you say you beat an 03/04 cobra then you are lying, no one car beat on of those cars.

Again if you try to tell someone that your bolt on lt1 beat a stock lt1 you are also a liar, because that just can't happen.

When it comes to street racing anything can happen and not all people can get videos of there races...i for one dont like racing with any passengers unless the other car has the same amount as me, not to mention the added risk of wrecking and not only injuring/killing yourself but your buddy as well.

Sorry for rambling but your post kind of pissed me off, you need to remeber that drivers are a big thing. Heck my g/f beat a 92 25th anniversery camaro w/ a 305 and 5 speed and she whas driving a 98 sohc neon, she can just shift and take off a whole lot better than the kid in the camaro who missed third. He may have missed a gear but he still lost the race.

My buddys Ls1 with suspension, a 12-bolt, a lid, and gutted cats beat a 04 cobra 2 weeks ago by about a car. The same LS1 ran a 12.6 at Norwalk. I don't how no LS1 ever couldnt beat the 03/04 Cobras. The GTO part was just stupid. They are fairly close races, but stock for stock an LS1 has an advantage over the Mach 1. I don't remember LS1's having a problems with 99/01 Cobras, and the Mach is that with a solid axle.

Most cobras are dynoing in the 430 hp range. Ford underpowered the horsepower to prevent another 99 cobra embarassment. Don't get me wrong, i like both camaros and stangs and i post the same on the stang forums to those who choose to lie. Those 03-04 cobras are unbelievable and i will be getting one myself as soon as i find one in 04 mystichrome. A blown LS1 and 03 cobra would be an interesting race though.

Most cobras are dynoing in the 430 hp range.

Modified ones, yes, they would have NO Problem spinning up that much.
I have never seen a stock one dyno that much.
All the stock ones have been in the 370 ~ 390 RWHP Range.

Good point, don't know what the price tag is going to be on one of those bad boys. I've been hearing around $40,000, add dealer market and greed and you could be around $47,000- $50,000. That's if you can find one. Used 03-04's cobras are going for around $22,000, a lot more reasonable for me at least.

very true, i just can only imagine what types of gain you can see if this 5.4 is built to handle boost relative to the 4.6dohc, unlike the current 5.4 in the lightning. im sure 700+rwhp isnt hard to conceive.

I'm curious, what size pulley was he running? Did he have a snow performance kit?, aftercooler?, full exhaust?, blower cams, upper/lower plenum, Who was the tuner, or better yet was it tuned????......................................

Even in Hawaii, we have a supercharged Viper that just ran a new best of 9.9 @ 140mph last night at the track. I had the honor of being his prey a few weeks ago when he was running a slower setup than now, when he cut a 1.5 60' and ran a 10.3 @ 138mph. yikes.... :eek:

I was wondering when others were going to chime in on this thread. Unless he's racing the same slower car 72 times I'm thinking he's full of it. I've drag raced for the last 16 years. I have had many cars over those years that ran from 14's to 10's. I've won and lost in all of those cars. At the track there is always someone faster and the same on the street. On the street you can pick your competition and only race Escorts if you want, at the track you will race whoever pulls up next to you be it a street car or race car. You can't tell me in 72 races you didn't get your a$$ handed to you once and a while. I gotta call b.s. on that one.

I just dug out one of my old Muscle Mustang & Fast Ford mags. Its the Sept. 2003 issue. Its an article of the installation of the Kenne Bell blowzilla blower on Nitrous Petes '03 cobra. ( The one that was the first '03 cobra in the 9's). It states that when it was stock it MADE 366rwhp. A '03 cobra can easily make 430rwhp but it will take some mods to do so. So there is no such thing as a stock 430rwhp cobra!! Christ they advertised at 390 at the flywheel so its rediculous to even think they make 430 at the wheels even if ford did underate them. They would'nt underate them that much.430 at the wheels mean close to 500 at the flywheel which is over 100hp over the factory rating!!
The 72-0 record is out there but it is possible if he chose his races very wisley on the street.I've been street racing for 15 years and only lost 1 time.I missed 3rd!! But I'm always reading up on ALL cars and what they are capable of running with different mods. I've always had a pretty fast car. When I was 16 I had a '69 Mach 1 with a modded 428 SCJ and a 4 speed!! then I had a low 12 second N/A daily driver ('89 Steeda)10 years ago when 12 second cars were'nt common like nowadays and I'm a decent driver. I now have a 9 second saleen and I made 5.0 magizines fastest mustangs in the world (in my class)list with it. But I've decilned races on the streets over the years. I just told the guy flat out. "with your mods yours is faster so we dont even need to race." I just race cars that are equally or less modded than me and I seem to always win that way.
As for the GTO being ugly. It a matter of opinon but I dont think it is'nt a bad looking car. Maybe a little plain. I always thought the'97-'02 Grand prix was a good looking car and many people say the GTO's look similar to the Grand prix. If I had the money I would definatly buy a GTO over the '04 and older stangs but I think I would take a '05 mustang over the GTO even though it has 100 less hp then the '05 GTO.

What are you talking about. The car on that link was modded. It had exhaust and intake mods to make that power.

And even with the mods it only dyno'd 406, not 430 as claimed. The idiot just disproved himself:)

Here is a cool video of an 03 Cobra on a dyno. Also shown on the page, The 03 Cobra reacts very well to minor modifications. All this owner did was install an intake and catback exhaust and put down 406rwhp. This equates to 480hp to the flywheel assuming a 16% drivetrain loss (rated at 390 stock).
