Traction Control/ABS Intermittent Problems

After driving the car for a while, or randomly, or sometimes, the traction control and ABS lights will come on as if the computer for them or a sensor or something is going bad. Is it just a sensor? or some other problem? The trac. control works when it isn't disabled, i haven't had any reason to check the ABS so far.

Thanks,
Nick

On a side note.... i'd just like to say this is a nice place to get information and help on this car. I've been a member of SCCoA (Supercoupe Club of America) with my Thunderbird, and it's nice having places to go to get help with cars. Thanks

Is it completely random or when you are coming to a stop? If when coming to a stop you get the LOW TRAC and ABS INOP lights then it could just be a loose connection at one of the sensors (2 in the front and 1 or 2 in the rear).

Also, there is a specific forum to post brake questions. I'll move this there for ya :D

As Brent said, it could be a loose or dirty wire connection. Sometimes cleaning the ABS sensors themselves works. A dirty ground connection can also cause dash lights to falsely light up. On the passenger side fender there's a ground post that is famous for poor connections (next to the red positive plastic cap). Disconnect the negative on the battery, remove the wires from the ground post, remove the post and sand off the paint under the post. Clean the post and screw it back in place. Attach your ground wires and reconnect the battery. This solves a lot of mystery dash lights.
