It's top was all messed up.

It was a black one, on its way to the GM proving grounds. Great looking car. Looked in my mirror on the way past and then turned in my seat to confirm.

The top was all messed up. Looked like brackets sticking out of the rear material and the rear material was all messed up.

I don't know what exactly with the top is causing prduction delays, but something was clearly not right.

I think the fitment was what was causing production delays.

Probably a tester. In the spyshots of the Solstice and now the Solstice GXP, the top is always rough. I'm not worried about it.

It's called a test mule. My guess was that it was a hand built early car that is being used to test a new motor options. I could have seen last week leaving Detoit. If you only knew about the mules that GM has running as tests for the 900 project. It looks like an 800 but..............

How's it's road presence? Does it look noticeably wider than the Miata?

I live about 3 miles from the proving grounds. I have seen quite a few Solstice's now on the street, and yes they look much wider than a miata. For style, they put a Miata to shame. This thing does not scream $20,000.00. It screams I am a steal at $20,000.00. It looks and has a presence of a car that should cost upwards of $40,000.00. Everytime I see one, I get the little heart flutter like, "What is that?" Then I realize its a solstice. Driving against it in a 2 lane road, I immediately think of a jaguar XK8. I think that's the right model.

I think GM is making a BIG mistake by not releasing the higher powered model of this car 1st or at least at the same time. A car that looks like this needs to be as fast as possible out of the gate.

But, why didn't they call it Fiero? LOL

I don't think that is necessarily true. This is a "look-at-me" car that is fun to drive. Doesn't have to have the world's most horsepower.

It should. It is 3.5" wider than the miata. Add that to the fact that it'll be 0.1" shorter than the miata and you have a car with wider proportions.

I did a size and weight comparo last week. My findings are below for both cars. The figures within the parentheses on the solstice portion lists the differences when compared to miata. It should give you a good enough idea of how the two cars compare size and proportion wise till when can actually see them side by side (which won't be for awhile)

Miata.
Overall length------157.3-inches
Overall width-------67.7-inches
Overall height------ 49.0-inches
Wheelbase---------91.7-inches
Track (front/rear)---58.7-inches/58.9-inches
Weight------------2,469lbs

Solstice:

Overall length------157.2-inches (0.1" shorter)
Overall width-------71.3-inches (3.5" wider)
Overall height------ 50.1-inches (1.1" taller)
Wheelbase---------95.1inches (3.4" longer)
Track (front & rear)--- 60.7-inches/61.4-inches ( 2" front/ 2.5"-rear longer)
Weight------------2,860lbs (397lbs heavier)

Thanks for the number Gold Rush, I read your comparo last week, so I knew the numbers. Just waiting(anxiously, I might add) to see the Solstice and Miata next to one another.

I can't stand the idea of not having a back seat #1. #2 I hate tee tiny cars like the miata, Z4, etc etc, but the Solstice....well....for $20k it's sort of got me thinking.

Anyone know when an FI Coupe will be available?
