Saw an 06 Charger on the streets today...

I must say, this thing looked mean! It was black with black centered 3-pc. wheels. It had a DUB badge on the side. Really clean and mean looking. I didn't know these cars were out yet, it made me do a double take. The car was spotted in the City of Industry/LaPuente area. The pictures do it no justice. [/blasphemy]

i had a feeling it would look aggressive in person, but i still think it is ugly (from what i can see)

Sounds like the same one that DUB magazine had at their display at the Chicago Auto Show.

If it is..that car started to change my attitude about the Charger. One second before I saw it...I would have told you that Charger was one of the biggest design failures ever. But that Charger....and it sure sounds like it could be the same one....was so frickin' mean and agressive looking....it changed my opinion, instantly.

Agreed. If it had "DUB" on the side.....it was the Dub magazine version and not the production version.

Kris....glad to hear everything is OK with you. Keep designing those umm......toys :D

I like it! :D Although 20s would look better (more tire sidewall) than the 22s.

That'd look killer parked next to my black 96 Impala SS.

Looks like a Killer whale. All it needs is some white paint across the front.

Beats the bloated, dead whale look of the final gen Caprice.

Still looks like the same awkwardly styled Charger to me.... with big bling-bling wheels on it.

I agree, but I still think the rear quarters are awkard as hell.

Oh, don't get me wrong...I'm not saying it's a pretty car. Just saying that maybe it's not as bad as I thought.

I think it's a great looking car until you hit the second set of doors. I really wish they had a coupe available, it would have changed my opinion of Dodge.

I liked the mustang in person. I even liked the GTO better in person. I thought i'd like the Charger in person, but i've seen the regular and the daytona version, and still don't like the looks.

DUB version is better though, looks wise. All black, lowered, and the wheels while over the top are are pretty pimp, especially with that deep dish. 2 sizes smaller and less chrome and it would look nice.

City of Industry is right in the area where I saw about 90% of the prototypes, mules, and "not-quite-out" vehicles I when I lived in the LA area. Interstate 405 from the I-5 exchange to almost Long Beach is probally the best place to see these cars outside of Death Valley in July & August, or an automaker's proving grounds.

Almost every automaker has either a west coast HQ or a shop or design studio in that area (except GM has a studio-shop in North Hollywood, Nissan has one down towards San Diego, and Jim Wagners of GTO fame has a verification company near Oceanside). You also have at least 1 company in Orange county that makes concept cars and a host of customizing shops off but along the southern 405 corridor that occasionally does something for an automaker.

Saleen and a quite a few other tuner shops also are in the area.

Awesome area to have to commute through if you want to see alot stuff not out yet, or regularly see something in cammo, or simply see something extremely rare fairly often (ie: Saleen S7s). :)

I like it, EXCEPT for those ghetto wheels.

Otherwise, it's an aggressively-looking, eye-catching car. Bet it sells well.

I live right in the area, but Industry is that part between the 605 and the 57 hugging the 60. that's not exactly near any of the places you mentioned though Guy.

I saw it on Gale Ave, the street that runs alongside the 60 freeway. It was on my way home from work. My boss told me DUB magazine is right around the corner from us, so that might explain it.

I dont like the headlights, i dont know if those are covers or aftermarket lights but they look akward. I like the rims but like many have stated keep it to 20's.

Now, if they really didnt want to piss off soo many mopar fans they should have just made a 2dr variant chrysler has the crossfire why not a v8 rwd coupe to fill the gap? The styleing like i have stated reminds me of a damn intrepid/magnum mix. They should have drawn off the old chargers styleing cue's. I love the old 69/70 chargers those flip headlights were cool and it was VERY mean looking. Why not make the new charger with some of those character traits? Or atleast make it look unique instead of a magnum sedan. I think it will be a flop like the GTO Chrysler is going to have to redesign it in a few years if they want to keep buyers.

The SRT-8 Charger looks BADASS! Thats prob the only charger of the current gen i would buy. It looks 10x better with the rims and new facia and hoodscoop

Here is what they had to say about the 6.1 Hemi as well as the Autostick tranny:

Powertrain
Just as the very first Charger - the original 1964 "Charger by Dodge" concept car -- sported a HEMI V-8, the all-new 2006 Dodge Charger SRT8 gets its motivation from a HEMI, too. In this case, it's a big-bore, SRT-engineered version producing 425 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque.

Several features of the new 6.1-liter SRT HEMI recall the legendary HEMI engines of previous decades, including the namesake hemispherical combustion chambers that provide power and efficiency, orange-painted cylinder block, black valve covers, and even the horsepower rating (with less displacement, the 6.1-liter HEMI's 69.8 horsepower-per-liter rating exceeds that of the legendary Street HEMI of the 1960s and '70s).

To create the 6.1-liter version of the Chrysler Group's HEMI, SRT powertrain engineers applied tried-and-true engine-building tricks honed by generations of American hot-rodders.

They unleashed 85 more horsepower by adding more cubic inches, increasing the compression ratio, redesigning the cylinder head, intake and exhaust systems for increased flow, and increasing engine speed.

For more displacement, SRT engineers bored out the diameter of the cylinders in the HEMI by 3.5 millimeters each in order to increase the total displacement to 6.1 liters from 5.7 liters.

Compression ratio was also increased to 10.3:1 from 9.6:1, increasing engine efficiency and power.

Engine breathing was increased with new higher-flow cylinder heads, a specially designed intake manifold, and exhaust headers with individual tubes encased in a stainless steel shell, all unique to the 6.1-liter HEMI engine. Larger-diameter valves and reshaped ports in the heads allow for maximized air flow. The intake manifold was designed with larger-diameter and shorter runners for higher-speed tuning. Exhaust is routed through a large-diameter (2.75-inch vs. 2.5-inch) exhaust system with 3.5-inch chrome tips.

To further increase horsepower, performance-oriented camshaft profiles were developed to allow more air in and out of the cylinders, as well as manage a higher engine speed. SRT engineers increased HEMI's peak power output engine speed nearly 20 percent to 6,000 revolutions per minute (rpm) from 5,000 rpm. Intake and exhaust valve stems are hollow, and exhaust valve stems are filled with sodium to help dissipate heat more efficiently.

The high-performance SRT 6.1-liter HEMI is strengthened with redesigned components, including a reinforced engine block, forged steel crankshaft, high-strength powdered-metal connecting rods, floating-pin pistons (cooled by oil squirters), and an oil pan modified to manage oil return to the pan sump at high engine speeds.

Power for the SRT 6.1-liter HEMI is channeled through an A580 five-speed automatic transmission with specially calibrated driver-selectable AutoStick®, which offers fully automatic or manual shifting selection. A heavy-duty four-flange prop shaft sends the torque from the transmission to an upgraded differential and axles.

Yes, that most definitely is bad ass.
