459 hp from stock SRT-8 300C.
Re: 459 hp from stock SRT-8 300C.
459? What kind of drivetrain loss assumption is that based on? Over 20% easily just off the top of my head. That's a big assumption.
The SRT-8 is rated for 425hp in the first place with a more standard 16% drivetrain loss is 357RWHP.
So that dyno basically is saying he's got 10 or so more ponies than the motor was rated for.

Re: 459 hp from stock SRT-8 300C.
The % calculation is a crock of sh**.
For a manual add 50hp to rwhp and for an auto add 70hp.
6.1 Hemi 367rwhp + 70 = 437hp. A slight underrating.
BUT the car had 320 miles on the odometer!!!
This thing will probably break in to around 450hp.
LS2 350rwhp + 50 = 400hp. Rated dead on by GM.
And these are well broken in cars with a few thousand on the odometer.
I'd say the new Hemi is a legit 450hp motor.

imagine if it was a 426 hemi
and imagine if it was an option on a high end cuda
i predict the peak of the muscle wars will be with a high end z28 (possibly zl1) and a high end dodge, and a high end stang

I don't buy the 20% correction garbage. At these power levels, use ~50 for a manual and ~70 for an auto. That gets you in the 435 range - which is still very, very impressive.
FYI...for gas mileage, the SRT-8 is rated at 2 mpg less than the 05 GTO with an automatic (14/19 vs 16/21). Most of that is likely the extra 400 lbs it has to deal with.

And 16% just so happens to pretty much match 70hp for an auto. Whaddya know?
It's advertised to make 425hp, so like I was saying... 10 extra horses. Is that really so impressive?I mean 425 horses is impressive in the first place. But discovering this particular car made 10 more doesn't seem that abnormal to me.

Considering how fast these giant family sedans are with these Hemi engines I just salivate at the prospect of that engine in a car that is well under 4000 lbs.
Can you imagine how sexy this line up would be for a Dodge Challenger?
250 horsepower 3.5 V6 Challenger SE-18k.
350 horsepower 5.7 "Hemi" Challenger R/T-24k.
450 horsepower 6.1 "Hemi" Challenger SRT-8-30k.
Heck the advertisements already write themselves.
Open with some flash cuts of the Challenger barreling down the street zooming in on the wheels and the hood etc...
voice comes in
"In 2007 a new Challenger steps into the ring."
Then have it zoom past a Mustang GT and show the GT springing a a leak and "wetting" itself.
That would make me...

SRT-8 is a gas pig. V8 Trailblazer EXts do better than that.

Chryslers have never been ahead of the curve in fuel economy.
Chrysler's powertrain strongpoint has traditionally been in horsepower and longevity. They may consume old as they age, but they'll keep running and keep making power.
BTW: Chrysler's 6.1 SRT V8s is 25-35 horsepower underrated, depending on it's application.
This comes "pretty much" from inside.
