srt-4 race

lined up with a blue srt-4 last night.

As the light turned green, we both ease out of gear. Like a bat out of hell, he punches it. Now we are both in first gear going about 10-15 mph. He instantly gets a car length on me. I punch it and he went nowhere. I started gaining on him. I only got to get to middle of 3rd gear. (it was a merging lang)

im a completely stock LT1 m6, and i have no idea what he had.

should i have killed him, or did i fair good?

if he was stock you should have edged him out. with some work they can cause lt/ls1 drivers some bruised egos

I raced a buddy of mine (Anthony w/grey SRT-4) from a 30-35mph roll... he had cold air & exhaust.... it was dead even until about 110mph... absolutely silly.... I couldnt believe it. Its the only 4 banger im afraid of... :bow:

with my new 3500 torque converter... it should be a little better.. but .. geez.

PS: I have a serious stereo system... 2 type R 10's... Soundstream Amp(Tarantula) 125x4 + 2 MTX mono-block amps for the type R's (800.1's)...thats about 150lbs of stereo at least... (.1 - .2 tenths)

Hah, that sounds about right. Last summer me and my buddy were cruseing around when an SRT-4 pulled up to us. I never really knew anything about them, but the guy asked us to race him. So we went to a straight no traffic area and he beat me by about a car and a half. So that winter i took out a $5,000 loan and did all the mods in my sig. Thinking the whole time i did all the work that i will never let a neon beat me again. Needless to say i pulled up to the same guy about a week ago with 2 friends in the car. Im like "I raced you before" and his reply is "Yeah? And i bet you lost to!" So we both get a light and im thinking the whole time how this bastard is going to see nothing but my ass end. After spinning through first and him haveing about 2 cars on me i passed him and didnt even need to shift out of second. Boy was he pissed. :) Sorry for the rant, i just hate thoes damn things.

That is what I thought, only CAI and exhaust, and he was running with a LT1 with LT4 heads,intake, and hot cam?

I EASILY pull on my buddies 2004 SRT-4 from all speeds, any gear, even giving him a nice 1-car jump. They're quick cars, but if you have boltons and a Hotcam, much less LT-4 heads, you should be freight-training that guy.

Better get another 5 grand loan if ya think a srt wont beat ya w/ what ya got....they dont need much to get in the high 12's

I ran a stock one and had im by a few cars on the 1st race and the 2ed I gave him a car and still had him by 2 cars easy.I run 13.5's and he was stock.With good drivers they can dip in the mid 13's pertty easy

I actually planned on doing that this winter. In that video i posted up a while ago of that red SRT-4 beating me on the bottle but me beating him without it, thats the fastest one ive raced. He had around $5k in his car too. :)

yeah, i also have a stereo system in mine. i got a single 2005 kicker cvr10 sealed. this is the quickest car thats i've race so far. i still want to get my hands on a sti. i need to start putting some boltons. whats the best first mod (fairly cheap). i'm thinking a cold air intake system. whatcha think?

For some reason, all the ricers who have recently installed turbos or a new cam come ask ME to race them. I guarantee them it won't be close and 99% of the time I get "you'll be surprised" and a cocky smile and friends making jokes about domestic cars being slow. Then I proceed to put an 1/8 mile distance between us, and IF they come back to chat, I ask them if they're surprised.

by the way-- 4cyl cars with cams sound absolutely ridiculous.

You sure your car's running right? With my mods in sig i'm dead even with a Srt-4 that's running over 20 something pounds of boost and has a downpipe (not sure how much that does) and my car has a miss. Not trying to down you or your car but i think you should have beat him.

Talk about a bruised ego. This damn thing rolled up next to me at a stop light. We both take off, I had him by a car lenth easy, so I thought. This guy came out the woodwork and pulled a car and a half in front of me. I had to slow down because a car was merging into my lane. What happened to only having 230 hp and doing about 5.8 seconds, 0-60? When he shifted, I heard a LOUD spit of air. Is this stock or modified? I have never heard a turbo like that. I have a 96 z m6. I don' t think my z is stock, being that I bought It a dealer with a rebuilt engine. I noticed a few mods like an airfoil and an aftermarket MAF. He is forcing me to go turbo. 2.4 vs 5.7. Do the math. I understand turbo but DAMN! I have put eclipses to sleep that have turbo. This one really messed me up. Looks like I'm not going to sleep well tonight.

I honestly think my Ignition box was going south at the time.. at this point.. my CRANE HI-6 is just sitting in the engine bay taking up space..

My opti went bad about 2k miles ago... car seems to have a whole different attitude at this point.

Maybe my car was on the its last leg or whatever (bad Ignition box & bad opti)..and.. I dont think my super duper B&M 2400 stall converter was helping any... I cant wait to swap in my TCI 3500...the B&M was a mistake.....

Anyway.. those cars are fast.. and make our cars look silly with a stage 4 from the factory....I cant believe they warranty that stuff too... ridiculous.

Mopar is junk in my opinion.. but those 2.2 / 2.4l turbos have been in the works for YEARS.. since the eary 90's (minivans & shelby daytona's.. which laughably is called the "P-body")

I just want to strap a basic STS system on and look at their faces.. :eek:

guess that would depend on how much "steroids" the import has, if you want to compete... muhahaha...

I guess I take most imports too lightly. At least this was an AMERICAN 4 banger. Well now I have to resort to STS. Put them all to sleep, at least 99% of them.

P.S. Loud spit of air was probably a mopar Blow off valve. No performance gain, just for sound and helps relieve pressure from turbo
