I was wondering what the biggest reason for switching over to an aftermaket engine managment system is, say over the stock PCM. Is it the ease of tuning etc...?

Engine Managment System?leadfoot94 04-15-2005, 11:02 PM I was wondering what the biggest reason for switching over to an aftermaket engine managment system is, say over the stock PCM. Is it the ease of tuning etc...? slp223 04-15-2005, 11:55 PM some reasons are the stock pcm has a problem with boost it was never designed to see positive manifold pressure nor was the stock map sensor. also at a certian point the maf becomes a restriction I dont know of any aftermarket systems the use a maf. I am not saying there are not any but i am not aware of them. you can also use wideband o2 sensors while the stock pcm used narrow band sensors. speedmiser 04-16-2005, 12:51 AM I was wondering what the biggest reason for switching over to an aftermaket engine managment system is, say over the stock PCM. Is it the ease of tuning etc...? For me, yep, it was ease of tuning. Got tired paying people to burn chips. And storing, manipulating, and downloading multiple configurations with the DFI seemed much easier than burning chips myself. 97WS6SCharged 04-16-2005, 12:55 AM Generally the more expensive stand alones use MAF, like the Motec units. slp223 04-16-2005, 01:05 PM what maf does the motec use do them make their own? leadfoot94 04-16-2005, 08:08 PM I was curious because I was just about to buy a DynoJet wideband o2 system, and I wanted to know if it would be in my best interest to just go ahead and purchase a whole new system. What seems to be the most user friendly/popular? DFI Gen 7? F.A.S.T? 97WS6SCharged 04-16-2005, 09:25 PM I believe you can program the Motec to work with any MAF. Not 100% sure though. Yes, FAST and DFI seem to be the most popular systems. 50/50 :) | ||
