Why is that GM is only focusing of the possibility of bringing back ONLY the Camaro? Why not its counterpart the Firebird and Trans Am's also?

 

Not to worry. I'm sure that someone (Any takers? Anyone?) can start a rumor about a mythical 2008 Firebird to go along with the fictional 2008 Camaro. The reality is that GM is no closer to putting a 5th generation Camaro (or a Firebird!) on the street in 2005 than they were in 2001.

 

theres more of a chance of having a chevy coupe not named Camaro, and a pontiac counterpart than to have both the camaro and firebird return.

 

We'll be lucky to see a 2008 Camaro!!!!

 

Sadly, Firebird has not been "bitched about" being gone nearly as much as Camaro.

Ask Lutz. From what I recazll he wants to take pontiac into a "bmw" fighter division and the Trans Am/ Firebird doesn't fit into it, however I guess a Minivan and a bunch of FWD's Do?

My advice, buy a Cobra...

 

Pontiac was to be an "adult" performance division & Firebird didn't fit with that idea. Remember those "Borrow a Pontiac for a day" commercials from a few years ago? They were pulled because they didn't represent the direction Pontiac wanted to go. Ditto the body cladding.

In the unlikely event that Firebird does return, you can probally safely bet the farm it won't be the gaudy boyracer that former Firebirds (especially the WS6 Trans Ams) used to be.

Chevrolet will be the place for youth oriented performance and boy-racer looks.

1. Not 2005, 2008.

2. Bob Lutz has all but banged you in the head with a baseball bat that there's a new "RWD performance coupe" under development. Also, unless you haven't been reading the press' "obituaries", the next Camaro was going to be on Zeta, and is obviously being moved to something else.

 

And its a shame too, because the last WS6's were so sweet lookin'. Didn't they have to pay SCCA or something for use of the T/A name? I heard that somewhere. I wouldn't think it could be much, but still I don't think it would helps its chance of a return sadly. Then there's the GTO... blasphemy, I know some of you are thinkin', but ya can't please everyone, but you can damned well try. Some like it some don't. Maybe they can change it, in a way that it appeals to more of the ppl that don't, with the next design. As for Firebird there's always hope. I don't see why they couldn't offer all 3 cars or more, a Chevelle, El Camino like the old days bring back an assortment of V8 RWD cars..., this way you don't have to please everybody with 1 or 2 cars, but you can offer something alittle dif., to fit dif. type of ppl's tastes. They do need to spread the platform out, to the most cars so it pays for itself, don't they! Make PPL see these are the old "Glory Days". Not yet but they could be.

 

Isn't that being covered by Cadillac and Corvette, I see just as many people in their 40's driving these WS6's as people in their 20's. In fact, around here the WS6's usually have older drivers than the V6 style Birds. I think Pontiac could offer a range of body-cladding to meet taste's, from mild to WS6!..

 

I mentioned this before, kinda like the bulging fenders/quarters on the Dick Harrell cars. Maybe even a dif. rear light panel like Cobalt. The SS/Z/28's get round lights, V6's get regular=less racy rear panel, the performance editions would get them and the V6's would not, so as not to scare off the girls, or wussies. As some girls don't scare so easy and might want a totally serious looking machine. Like my GF she rows the T56, though she still misses the auto sometimes. Just some ideas IMO.

 

I call my firebird a camaro... sometimes, on porpous sometimes accedentally... but when i say i want the return of the camaro, that means im gonna buy a firebird... (not to get bitchy just trying to stand up for the firebird)

I apologize but currently Pontiac has not made any decisions that would suggest the return of the Firebird. Although the Firebird has always had focused appeal, Pontiac will continue the tradition of providing performance vehicle with high value. Pontiac has just introduced the G6, and the Equinox is coming out for 2006.

Again I am sorry that Pontiac has not chosen to bring back the Firebird at this time, and I encourage you to check our website for up to date press releases on this matter. I have noted you dissatisfaction under case number 1-323414416.

Not to flame, but how in the hell do YOU confuse your firebird for a camaro? It's one thing for non-enthusiasts, non car people to not know, but its owner?! As a firebird enthusiast first, that disheartens me.

Anyways, did the email mention the Equinox or Torrent? If Pontiac itself does not know what it's selling, good lord does it need help. As a proponent for it not getting axed from the rumors, if Pontiac did mention equinox then maybe it should get axed.

 

First off, he was saying they aren't any farther "on the drawing board" now (2005) than they were in 2001.

Well, I think many people who can't afford a Caddy or Vette would prefer an alternative...and hence, I think that is why Pontiac is "headed 'that' way."

And now, on to the original topic...I would presume the idea not to bring back the same car with a skosh different styling is what they are trying to get away from, and the reason why Olds is gone and whatever else may be on the chopping block. How many "different" cars can you offer one person every time they come to buy a new car, and still stay afloat? They (GM) are just saturating their part of the market with way too many damn choices of, essentially, the same thing...it's kinda assinine if you think about it...

P.S. I don't claim to know too much about anything, this is just the reasoning I thought up when I was reading about the possibility of cutting one more brand, and I just thought about it...kinda the same reason Plymouth is now deceased as well...so, just don't try to say "FU, you know nothing!!!!!! " because I'm not claiming I do.

 

What I want to know is why people still think Firebird and Trans Am are two diffrent cars...whats diffrent about them?? and if its not a firebird then why is there a huge flaming chicken adorned on them (bandit T/A comes to mind)... Riddle me that one Batman...
