99Blackt/a 04-14-2005, 12:36 AM Well since I decided to keep the T/A while I go to college I figure I might as well get a cam while I still have the money to do so they thing is I dunno which cam to go with, I want something streetable obviously but I still want to produce some good power without obliterating the gas mileage(ie trex) I'm thinking of a 112 center line and I've looked anything from the tr224 and such but Im just wondering what else is out there I can deal with a mean lope actually I want that but any help would be appreciate oh and the ls6 manifold would be going in at the same time any opinions, I know teke184 had some good results with the torquer
teke184 04-14-2005, 07:35 AM yeah, i think i got about 23/24mpg on the highway coming home last weekend. that was with an m6 doing 80 for 200miles and 55 for 100miles.
you could try one of the slightly smaller cams:
TSP Custom 225/225 Cam: 225/225, .589"/.589", 112 LSA
TSP Custom 228R Cam: 228/228, .588"/.588", 112 LSA
they also have a 231/231 .595" lift cam that would produce good numbers.
realize with any of these larger cams you'll probably be in the same boat as me....NEW CLUTCH TIME
99Blackt/a 04-14-2005, 04:52 PM Your mileage sounds damn good to me I just didnt want to end up with single digit gas mileage, i know I will for a while after I get the cam seeing as how i wont keep my foot out of it. I really like the gains you saw (not that I'm trying to steal your setup). You think my z06 clutch will hold up?
ls1650 04-14-2005, 06:04 PM if your trans am is your daily driver than i suggest go with a smaller cam. that will give u enough power for your daily drives. a bigger cam would do too but better on the tracks.
99Blackt/a 04-14-2005, 06:38 PM It is my daily driver but i only drive about 30 miles total to work and back
ls1650 04-14-2005, 07:01 PM than u probably wanna go with a tr 224 cam. thats good for a daily driver.
99Blackt/a 04-14-2005, 08:34 PM I just want to make sure I dont blow all this cash and end up with **** for gains
ls1650 04-14-2005, 08:54 PM how much horsepower do u want to get out from your car?
the 224 cam should give u around 30 to 40rwhp or maybe more with a good tune. it just depends how your car reacts. make sure before u order it, u get all the bolt ons, that'll help.
99Blackt/a 04-14-2005, 09:03 PM Id be happy with 370ish all my mods are in my sig., what else would i need bolt on wise, I really appreciate all your help
Klypto 04-14-2005, 09:08 PM lid, and ls6 intake, and LT headers, y-pipe catback... id get a new timing chain, oil pump(ls6 pil pump), and a ported throttle body....
thats what TR recomends(i jsut orderd a cam kit and ALOT of other things to go with it.. and that all the stuff to support the cam... get the stage1 cam kit, with all the options from TR...
cory
ls1650 04-14-2005, 09:20 PM yeah i see that u got most of the bolt ons. good idea to go with the cam kit which includes all the parts. once u get ur ls6 intake installed than your set. maybe if u want u can add pullys, gears, to increase your horsepower a little more. with the cam that i recommended should put u where u want.
99Blackt/a 04-14-2005, 09:21 PM I was planning on the timing chain, springs, retainers, cam, pushrods, oil pump, and was kinda wondering wether or not to get new lifters?...I was looking at their cam kits as well will i need the ported tb? I've heard a couple of sound clips of ls1soundsof teh tr224 but havent heard it in person does it have a nice lope(im really only worried bout the power but a lopey idle sounds sweet too)
Klypto 04-14-2005, 09:22 PM o yea, get the lifters if oyu have the money, i know of a few ppl personally that bent them... i forgot im getting them too...
cory
ls1650 04-14-2005, 09:30 PM i'm sure with a cam kit u will get to 370rwhp and it is easy for u since u have a m6. its harder with a4's since u lose power tru the drivetrain.
99Blackt/a 04-14-2005, 09:51 PM ok just a couple more dumb questions from me what about the mti g1http://www.motorsporttech.com/fbody_engine01.asp i know the duration is a lil more and so is the lift but the lsa is a little wider....oh and what about the ported tb?
Klypto 04-14-2005, 09:53 PM its basically a new TB... TR said they highly recommended it when i called them... so i got it... they put it on all their cars...
cory
ls1650 04-14-2005, 09:55 PM yeah go with TR thats where im getting mines from soon :)
99Blackt/a 04-14-2005, 10:03 PM Single coil or dual coil springs?
Klypto 04-14-2005, 10:06 PM unless you get close to or above .600 lift.. single is fine.. i was gonna get dual for the tr224 and they told me it was WAY over kill.. if oyu have the money... sure.. but dont need it.. the said the single is plenty good for the tr224 or equivelant...
99Blackt/a 04-14-2005, 10:08 PM Sweet everything is sounding great thanks guys
ls1650 04-14-2005, 10:14 PM a buddy of mines has a 02 firehawk and his mods are lid, filter, full exhaust, lt headers, and a f-13 cam on a 112+4. he dyno at 390rwhp. with little more mods like pullys, and tb he dyno at 400rwhp.
Klypto 04-14-2005, 10:15 PM never did understand the +4 whats that mean?
cory
ls1650 04-14-2005, 10:27 PM +4 meant it was an a4 automatic.
99Blackt/a 04-15-2005, 01:08 AM what r the specs on that f13?
teke184 04-15-2005, 08:15 AM isn't it a futral motorsports cam??
www.futralmotorsports.com
they have alot of good cams, really aggressive ramp rates so they tend to be rougher on springs from what i've been told.
99Blackt/a 04-15-2005, 11:19 AM OH ok thanks was looking at the sight
luv2spd 04-15-2005, 11:36 AM +4 meant it was an a4 automatic.
uhh, no.
It means that it has 4 degrees of advance ground into the cam. If it's on a 112 lsa the icl would be 108, hence the +4. Advancing the cam will lower the power band slightly so you won't have to spin it quite as high.
LS1RedZ 04-15-2005, 01:02 PM I have a friend with a 02' WS6 that has the TR224 and it dynoed 391rwhp and it has a pretty mean lope to it.
Klypto 04-15-2005, 03:16 PM yea, i thought it was with timing... +4 for it being an auto seemed kinda fishy...
cory
ls1650 04-15-2005, 05:12 PM uhh, no.

yes your right but i meant he has a4 as well.
99Blackt/a 04-15-2005, 10:19 PM Anyone know the gm part number for the ls6 manifold??
ls1650 04-16-2005, 01:22 AM are u willing to buy one?
99Blackt/a 04-16-2005, 03:24 AM yeah, but i work at a gm dealership so i was going to check with parts on the number and see what it would be with a discount
ls1650 04-16-2005, 12:15 PM ok heres the part #88894339 u might need to buy a coolant pipe along with plugs if its not included but i believe it might be cuz the total is like $400.00.
