CrabhartZ28 04-12-2005, 09:07 PM That's my goal for this car, it'll take a while, granted. What would I need to generate 425RWHP (or at least over 400HP) consistently and reliably? The mods i have in the works right now are a new lid and dynomouth-like cat back. I know that'll put me barely at 300, so don't remind me.
So what would i need? I put my faith in your experience.
SSpdDmon 04-12-2005, 09:24 PM Mildly agressive head/cam package and bolt-ons should do it. You should check out the TR230 cam along with a good set of heads, lid, headers, cat-back and a good tune.

I am at 356rwhp and needed a tune up at the time. Fixing to have it dynoed again. See sig for mods. A good cam and heads should finish it off.
SnakeSkinner28 04-12-2005, 09:44 PM Get all the boltons and then get the T-Rex cam from Thunderracing. That will be your 415 at the wheels right there.
CrabhartZ28 04-12-2005, 10:21 PM oh yeah probably should have mentioned I have A4. I've heard the 02 model autos didn't detract too much from overall hp, but it probably makes it a little harder to reach my goal.
Klypto 04-12-2005, 11:05 PM big cam + bolt ons, easy 420ish hp...
cory
CrabhartZ28 04-12-2005, 11:09 PM could you go into more detail with "all the bolt-ons"? I know the air lid and new exhaust are in there, but what else do we have? A ram air kit i assume? Is a supercharger on that list? I'm not too keen on using spray...
psychocabbage 04-12-2005, 11:12 PM check around to other LS1 boards as well... You may find the F13 cam could be what you are looking for..
You dont have to go huge.. and it wont be harder with a 2002.. in fact, part of the modding is already done.. LS6 intake.. !EGR ... the rest is you really.. study and pick wisely and be rewarded..
CrabhartZ28 04-12-2005, 11:23 PM Thanks guys, this all really helps a lot. Now i have heard of you guys talking about the Trex cams and how unruly they can be, does anyone know of any comparisons between brands or reviews for different cams? Also headers will probably be a big issue as well...are LTs pretty much the way to go, or are there better things out there?
It's been a while since i've found a forum so willing to help. thanks again! :thumb:
teke184 04-13-2005, 07:45 AM call up trevor at texas speed and performance, tell him what you want and he'll tell you exactly how to get it.
no ram air is needed really.
the list is pretty short:
-headers
-233 torquer cam (just had mine installed on stock heads and it's awesome)
-stage 2 (or equivalent) LS1 heads
-dyno tune
you'll probably want a decent torque converter, but not sure how that works...been out of the auto scene for a while.
i did about 390 hp with the Torquer cam (382 actually but the clutch was slipping and the tune wasn't fantastic) and that was on stock heads!! the torque on that cam is great to, considering LS1s tend to be low on torque. it was right around 375#s at 5000rpms, with 330#s at 3000rpms.
decent heads would pick up 35hp NO PROBLEM!
Greed4Speed 04-13-2005, 01:07 PM Get all the boltons and then get the T-Rex cam from Thunderracing. That will be your 415 at the wheels right there.
He said reliable. Thats something no cam with over.6" lift can claim.
Crabhart, instead of looking to get a certain HP on the dyno, why not try for a certain ET. Take a converter for instance, it'll help you run quite a bit quicker on the track and street but will actually make you dyno lower. Then you could also change gears, again no dyno gains but you will be quicker. Dyno numbers are for bragging and bench racing.
CrabhartZ28 04-13-2005, 05:20 PM That's a good idea. However i haven't raced it yet, so i'm not exactly sure where i'm starting from.
I'd like to be somewhere in the 11 range, maybe a 11.5-11.8.
When i replace the torque converter, would Fuddle be a good brand? I've heard a lot of good things about them.
ls1650 04-13-2005, 07:30 PM its harder to reach over 400rwhp with a4's. much eaiser with m6's but it is possible. headers, gears, cam, head, and a good tune should get u there.
CrabhartZ28 04-13-2005, 07:53 PM On a quasi-related topic, the last comparison test of the 2002 Z28 in Car and Driver said the M6 and the A4 had a ET difference of about .2 or less. For that reason I stopped being self conscious of my A4.
Now if i can just find an air lid i can get started.

maybe tougher but not at all impossible. everything in my sig i bought from texas speed. cam is 233/239 @.05 .600/.605 112lsa. everything cost $3100. dyno'ed at 434rwhp.
ls1650 04-13-2005, 09:05 PM sure if u get a big cam than u can make it there.

Throw on a converter and the A4 is a whole new beast.
Never heard of the brand you mentioned....
CrabhartZ28 04-13-2005, 11:37 PM Yeah from what i've heard the A4 can be pretty nasty with the right torque converter.
this guy http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=560195&highlight=Fuddle
said he got a 1/4 mile ET of 13.9 stock, 13.3 with the Fuddle converter.
Is there another one you had in mind?

Decent cam like one from Futral Motorsports
www.futralmotorsports.com
F-13 is their most popular cam and most of their cars make damned close to if not over 400 rwhp with all the bolt-ons (TB, LS6/FAST intake, LT headers with good flowing exhaust or cutout, CAI kit, dyno tune, etc.)

hey kraest, nice set of girls. im more fond of the one on the left tho. :D nice ride too.
danziger 04-14-2005, 08:45 PM Won't be as easy to make an automatic-equipped, reliable LS1 hit 425rwhp as some would believe. The absolute easiest route would be a NX or TNT wet kit jetted for 125-150rwhp. If nitrous isn't your thing, a good heads/cam package with the necessary supporting equipment will get you there. However, be sure you have a plan for what you want the car to sound like, drive like and have expectations for relability and maintenance before you jump in. There are a lot of little things that add up. Long-tubes vs. mids, true duals vs. Y-pipe, LSA and duration for the cam, etc. I have 436rwhp/420rwtq N/A through a 6-speed with a clutch that is going south and could, theoretically, drive my Z28 every day. The problem is that I wouldn't want to drive it all the time. It's cold-blooded in the morning, pretty damn loud and smelling exhaust gets old after a while. Get a good plan and then ask about individual components...
CrabhartZ28 04-14-2005, 09:19 PM as far as the exhaust, i want a setup that for right now bolts to the stock y-pipe. It will consist of a fabbed y-pipe which starts right at the join point, then goes all the way to the stock locations much like a bassani tru-dual setup, but with 2 y-pipes instead of an X pipe.
That way, when i want to get actual true duals, i can simply hack off those y-pipes and weld in parallel pipes.
Now i think i'd like to go more with the cam, it's a tiny bit more legal than spray.
let's talk ET, i want to be in the 11s.
ls1650 04-14-2005, 09:34 PM to be in 11's u might need a head and cam.
frmula1 04-14-2005, 11:54 PM stock with a stall... and you'll double that distance in your favor from the m6's
DAMNIT I NEED TO BE STALLED!!!
SOMEONE STALL ME!!!!
ARRRRRRRGH
i need to get off my ass and just do this
