What are you really looking for?
What are you really looking for?
As I have been reading the IRS vs live axle debates a question has been quelling within me:
Are you looking for the new Camaro to be a all out drag car, a (365 days of the year) daily driver, or a weekend cruiser?

Re: What are you really looking for?
A daily driver, but only spring, summer, and fall. (I live in minnesota)
If it had AWD it could be a winter ride too.
But I dont want to turn this into a AWD debate.

Re: What are you really looking for?
I think we have to look at this from the bread and butter sales which will be mostly daily drivers.
Once again I’ll say it, yes an IRS will be a better set up, but it won’t sale the car and it will raise the price.
I want an almost daily driver. Ill be looking at an SS model convertible with a 5.3L. I wont drive it every day but it wont be just a weekend car.

Re: What are you really looking for?
if i am ever able to afford the 5th gen, i will buy the high end model, not as in butt-warming seats, but as in a 427
i know the market doesn't support this, but i don't see how putting a ls7 in a camaro could divert sources if they're already being made.
i know "its not that easy" but this is just my opinion.

Re: What are you really looking for?
Where's the weekend racer option? (note: NOT drag racing) That's what mine gets used for and probably what my next one would get used for.
Okay, to be fair my car was daily driver for the first six years but the house and a couple of dogs forced me into a Silverado daily driver a few years ago.

I'm not sure if it was Scott who pointed this out or someone else:
When you compare Camaro owners versus Mustang owners, a greater percentage of Camaro owners use their car as a "weekend" car than Mustang owners, which have a higher percentage of daily drivers.
I also recall there was also a higher percentage of Mustang owners of which the Mustang was their only car whereas Camaro owners tended to have at least 1 other car.
Couple more intresting Mustang vs Camaro items:
*Camaro buyers tended to be older and made more money than Mustang drivers.
*Mustang buyers had a larger percentage of people who classified themselves as "Do it yourselfers".

Re: What are you really looking for?
I voted drag race only because there really isnt a catagory for me to pick . I drag race nearly every weekend , and do a bit of street racing in between . It would end up being extensively modified and I really dont have any regrets about doing this to brand new car . The rest would be just pleasure driving . I drive a TON of miles for work , so I have a another car to rack up miles on .
Re: What are you really looking for?
I voted daily driver but I'm another spring, summer, fall guy. Winter is just too hard on these cars to abuse them that way.
I'm rooting for an awesome 'vert with IRS. As much as I would love to see an over the top 1LE/Z28 for what it would have to cost a used Z06 would probably deliver better bang for the buck.
In reality I have no idea what I'll be looking for 5 years from now....by then I'll almost fit the Buick demographic.
How do you retain this demographic, I like to think of us as the smart ones buying a "poor man's Corvette" and attract enough of the "Mustang" or some other demographic, to make the 5th gen viable?

Re: What are you really looking for?
If/When a F5 rear it's head, I would be looking at it with a want for it to be the same as my current Camaro, weekend nice weather cruiser only.
I will take IRS if offered thank you.
