It is time to build a new Sub-box. I have many questions about puting them in my 94, 2 door full size Blazer.
I have 2 15" RF Punch Powers # PWR-415 ( ya I know antiques )They still work great.
I cant find any air space #s for them. Can anybody help with this?
I also have a space issue. I want to down fire my 15s but also want to keep as much space in the back as possible.
My space I have to work with is, 34" deep x 35" wide x 15 high. Does any one have any ideas for a box?
The speaker data page is:
http://streetsound.ty.nu/man/Manualer/Basar/PWR-415_815-TS.pdf

(Sorry all i could find it in is an Adobe file.)
The amp I am running them with is a RF 800a2
I want to build the box my-self because my friend works for a cabinet / countertop shop. I get all the wood for free and use the shop to make it. I will also be covering it with blue marble countertop laminate.
I want to hit as hard as I can get them to hit but still have space in the back. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I can run your numbers through the spreadsheet and give you some dimensions if no one else comes up with anything.

What do you mean by "downfire" your subs??? I would either face them twords the cieling or twords the back of the rear seat.

Also are you looking for SPL or SQ???

I am looking for spl. I was told that 15" subs create more spl if they are facing downwards. If this is not true I am open to any sugestions. Thanks.

They should produce the same SPL either direction, the only way you any get more out of it being inversed is a small increase in box volume, but I doubt that much difference. I'll run it through my spreadsheet tonite and give you some dimensions and port lengths. I'll either post it tonite or tomorrow morning depending on when I get home.

Well, here's my opinion on what to do. I would build the box so the subs face the back wall of the cargo area. (I assume you want the box right behind the rear seat and that there is still some cargo space between the back wall and the box.) That way you get the sound waves bouncing off the back of the vehicle which might give you a little extra thump. If you had room, I'd say port the box, and maybe you do. The numbers you gave (35"x34"x15") gives over 10 cubic feet. I don't know if that's the total area of the vehicle or the size you want the box to be. If you go to Adire's install site http://www.adireaudio.com/car_audio/car_installs.htm

Toward the bottom there is a box for a suv. Although 4 shivas only hitting 150 dBs is pretty weak IMO. But I like the contours of the enclosure. Maybe you could do something like that and just face the subs rearward instead of straight up. I'm not real fond of big square boxes sitting in a trunk like the one directly above the explorer box. Good luck. Let me know if I can be any help to you:)

Allright here we go...

For your external dimensions, built out of 3/4" MDF with a center divider running parallel to the 34" x 15" walls. The overall external size being 35" wide by 34" long by 15" tall.

You need a length of 4" PVC (~4'). The ports need to be 10.75" long and you need 2 of them per chamber(Total of 4 ports for the entire box). Keep the ends inside the box atleast 3" away from the sides they should clear the bottom fine.

I would use a combo of Liquid nails and Drywall screws to assemble, predrilling the holes to prevent the MDF from splitting.

Your frequencies are as follows:

Fb (Frequency of the box,) = 31.7 Hz
F3 (Frequency responce at -3db) = 37.1 Hz

If your amp has a subsonic filter I'd set it about 30 Hz.

Let me know if you have any questions, and let me know how it works out.

weak?
i don't think you realize just how loud a legal 150 is...
they are sealed with 275 watts each in a big SUV.... 150 db is very loud....
at a USACi competition in Golden Valley a guy with a pair of Maelstroms (18") in a high tuned ported box (55 Hz and 5.5 cubes each) swept the no wall classes, here is how he did.

0-300 watt (using 150 watts each) 147 (beat the next competitor by 6 db)
301-600 watt (using a JBL 1200.1) 151.5
601+ using a HLabs 1600 watt amp 151.

Even tho he was in the no wall class his boxes were taking up everything behind the front seat in a Monte Carlo (in essense a wall with a little gap on top)...... he wouldn't have swept the competition if 150 db isn't loud. with less power, nothing resembling a wall and less cone area in a much larger vehicle 150 is VERY impressive.
